Hello,
You must find an installation CD for Windows XP (Borrow a CD) and use it to repair the boot manager of the computer.
When you get a CD
1. Configure the BIOS to boot from CD.
2. Boot from the CD.
3.When set up aska if you want to install or repair, answer Repair.
4. A black screen will appear asking you to choose the window installation to repair (you will most probably have only one installation present, so you enter 1)
5. You may be asked to enter administator password.
6. once you are logged type at the prompt FIXBOOT and hit Return.
7. When prompt comes back type FIXMBR and hit RETURN
7. When finished do a CTRL ALT DEL to reboot.

Hope it helps

Bootmdr missing what should i do?

Do a full recovery of your operational system, this will return it to factory setting, but be warned it will erase all personal files, however! it will give a clean install.

My Asus EEE 1001 netbook says it cant start because system32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys is missing or corrupted...many sites are saying i should insert CD, however i wasnt provided with one at the store i bought it...

you cannot do that by just simply copy the contents from cd to pendrive. you must use a bootable media of windows xp . if you dont have xp cd you can make your pendrive bootable and try

It says that

It means your laptop has no Operating System.
Is this a new laptop?
You will have to install an Operating System (OS), by using an OS installation CD.

If you dont know how to install an operating system, you can view my tip on installing Windows XP which is a generally similar process of installing other Windows OS (Vista, Windows 7)

BOOT MGR MISSING!!

if a friend has the xp cd, ask to use it, USE YOUR KEY CODE LOCATED ON A RAINBOW STICKER...usually on bottom of laptops, and back of pc desktops, this is your best bet, make sure your operating system is the one you both are using, ie...xp home edition on your puter, if your friend has professional, your key code wont work....make sure you both use home...or professional...sticker will tell you what your running.....a boot isk pretty much is obsolete with xp, windows 98 used em, me..as well....up to windows 2000, cd needed, downloaded the file really wont do it...i have never had sucess doing it....you can also contact the puter company and like $20.00 they should be able to send you the factory default restore/recovery disks, i am doing that with a friends toshiba now...waiting for the disks...that will be a way better thing tho, you'll have all info and drivers and os for it......good luck...shia

Toshiba satellite A205 - cd/dvd drive doesn't work

Hi there.

The CD/DVD drive uses Class Filter Drivers. These have probably been currupted or are missing. All you should need to do, is re-install the Chipset Drivers (Intel).

Here's the link:

Let me know if that works.

CANNOT INSTALL XP HOME

Why do you revove the cd? DONT do that, just let the installation go on until it finish.
When xp restarts you will be asked if you want to start from the cd, if you do press any key, DONT press anything at all, let the system starts from the point of installation that it needs.

BTW, did you set the boot correct? boot ONE the cd/dvd, boot TWO the HDD

Good luck

I just bought a toshiba satellite 5005-s504 on ebay it was shipped to me and all programming has been deleted I need to reload windows xp how do I do this I have a disc for windows xp but the laptop will...

When the computer starts to boot up does it ask you to boot to CD/DVD?
1. If so put the xp disc in the drive and turn on the power when it asks you to boot to CD/DVD press any key. This will start the installation process.
2. If it does not ask you to boot to CD/DVD you will have to go into Bios and change the boot priority to boot to disk drive first. save the settings and do the first step over again

You can buy any drive. go for Samsung \ LG. You can get used drives but now a days they dont cost much so its better to go for a new one. Get it from bestbuy or any local tech shop. Make sure while purchasing you mention drive for notebook.

Installing windows XP - Error encountered

Can you reboot and get into windows or is now corrupt?

What do you mean by 'uninstalled XP'??

You cant uninstall it unless you format the drive, in which case the recovery discs are now probably useless as they rely on a folder on the HDD called i386.

Recovery discs normally dont have the OS on them, they rely on the I386 folder to gather info about the computer and then restores it to the state when it was new.

If you can acess the system, reboot and go into the bios and change the boot sequence to CD, then insert the first recovery disc. then save the settings and the computer will reboot and start the recovery process again, this should clear up the error.

If it does not it will be because the i386 folder is missing in which case you can either explore the recovery discs for it or you will have to buy a copy of Windows XP.
