Bring up your internet brownser....in the address bar type 192.168.1.1 and hit enter. You will be given a sign on screen for the router. Put the name of the router (whatever you named it during setup) in the name box and type in the password (also made during the initial setup) This will get you into the routers settings. Once you are in the settings, click on the wireless tab, You should be in basic wireless settings. make sure you are in Manual setup and look at the box marked "network Mode", look in the drop down menu and pick "BG-mixed" Click save settings and exit the program.

If you cant remember the name and password of the router, then you may have to do a complete reset and reinstall of the router and settings. We can help you through that. If your router is a Linksys, then the name of the router if you didn't change it should be "linksys" and the password should be "admin", if you changed it during startup...then I have no idea and that is up to you, but like I said, you can always do a complete reset and start over.

Hi,

For you to access the router settings pageof your SMC Router make sure that the rouer is connected to the computer using an ethernet cable so that the computer will be able to comunicate with the router. Then open a browser type 192.168.2.1 on the address bar. There will be no username and the default password is blank. Then you can now change/check the wireless setting page and change it with your desired settings.

Thanks for using Fixya.

I have a linksys wireless-G model wrt54g and i'm trying to connect two computers at the same time wirelessly to the router. The problem is they keep kicking each other off the connection and i need them...

The most common cause for this problem is that the wireless settings for ip adresses at these computers are not set to auto; they are set to manual with the possible conflict at the wi-fi connection.
This procedure has to be done at both computers, one by one. Let's check some settings for the network connections. Click on "start" - "settings" - "control panel" - "network connections".
First we'll check the ethernet connection. Right click on "local area connection" - "properties" - choose "Internet protocol (TCP/IP)" - "properties". In case of not at automatically settings, click on both buttons to "obtain an IP address automatically" and "obtain DNS server address automatically". Your screen has to be like this:
technical114.jpg
Click on OK at both windows.
Now we'll check the Wi-fi connection. We are at the "network connections" window (Click on "start" - "settings" - "control panel" - "network connections" in case you close the window from the previous step). Right click on "Wireless connection" - "properties" - choose "Internet protocol (TCP/IP)" - "properties". In case of not at automatically settings click on both buttons to "obtain an IP address automatically" and "obtain DNS server address automatically". Your screen has to be like the previous one; the only difference has to be reffering the "connect using" line.
Click on OK at both windows.

Check the results and in case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.

Cannot Connect to Router

Open the set up page of the router check the wireless settings of the router.
I think your network is secured and you are not typing the correct network key.
just open the router set up and check the wireless settings .
Make sure that the DHCP server on the router is enabled.

Upgrade of router giving connection problems

You need to check the settings on the wireless adaptor to make sure it is the same as the new router. If you had set the old router with a password, then you need to set the new one the same way. If the new router is not set with a password and the connection is open and not secured, then you need to change the settings of the computer wireless adaptor.

Ok, my previous question was answered about hp pavilion zx5000

Hi,

You need to check whether it has compatibility with that router or not?

if yes, you need to make sure the operating system would meet all requirements...

Note - I am assuming that you have an inbuilt modem for wireless connectivity.

Check with vendor or router company if have any issues before you purchase.

Thanks for using "Fixya".

Wireless set up problem - no gateway ip or limited connectivity

Connect using Lan Cable
be sure to enable java on your Browser.
Use ONLY IE: some router refuse other browser.
SET your PC on a static IP address on SAME subnet as your router (but of course different IP).
If subnet concept is NOT clear to just just ask here.
When connected with router (on Lan Cable) check every setting (WPA-PSK) TKIP key, Broadcast / Channel etc.
You can also disable every WLAN protection and restore it later.
Activate WLAN connection WHEN you are STILL connected.
Last but not least: SET your DNS IP address = your gateway IP (router)

Reconfigure Linkys G Wireless Router

  1. Make sure that your modem is connected to the WAN port of the router and your computer is connected to one of the 4 ports of the router.
  2. Check the IP address that your computer obtained from the router. To do that, go to control panel>network connections.
  3. Right click on Local Area Connections and click status. Then click support and look for IP address.
  4. The IP address of the computer should be in 192.168.1.x.
  5. Then, access the router's setup page by launching Internet explorer and typing 192.168.1.1.
  6. It will then ask for a username and password. By default there is NO username and the password is admin.
  7. Once you're in setup page, set Internet connection type to PPPoE.
  8. You should have the username and password from ATnT.
  9. Save the settings afterwards and check your Internet connectivity through the router.
Hope this helps!
