Won't recognize home wifi, though it does recognize cafe wifi

I bought a used laptop and tested it by going to a cafe, where it went on wifi and internet, no problem. When I clicked on the show networks icon, the cafe wifi showed up, and I went online. At home, my own wifi doesn't show up in the list, so I can't connect to it. I do have another laptop at home, and the icon shows up on it, and I am able to connect just fine. Thank you!

To check to see if wireless is enabled, go to start, settings, network connections. That is where its at in Win XP, if thats not where it is on your computer, go to start, search, then search for network connections. In WC you should see a wireless adapter listed, it will either say enabled or disabled, if its on, disable it and reinable it. To check your router settings, you will have to open internet explorer and type in the ip address of the wireless router. Instructions on how to do this are included with the router. If you no longer have instructions, it will often list how to do it on the manufacturer website.

Check the settings on your router, make sure it is transmitting 802.11b AND 802.11g. Perhaps your previous laptop is accepting the signal that is possibly 802.11g, but the older laptop is needing b. If that doesnt work, go back to the cafe, and see if you are still able to connect. If not, check the settings to make sure wireless is still enabled. Some laptops have a slider button on the front or side to enable/disable wifi, one of mine has it and sometimes i accidently turn it off. If it is indeed on, try disabling it, and re-inabling it.

My Chromebook netbook won't connect to my home wifi

That is weird. Does the Chromebook see the wireless router? I just looked on Google's Chromebook website and it says that the Chromebook works with any security setting. What type of Wifi router do you have at home?
This is the Google page talking about Wifi connection issues.

I want to buy a wireless network adapter USB. I do not have internet home, but there is a public connection that is a couple hundred feet away from my house that is public because it is a cafe. Can anyone...

A couple of hundred feet away may be too far for a good signal receiption.
You can increase your signal with an aerial.
You may need to go into the cafe or park yourself nexr door to the cafe.
Use Google to see what is available on the Internet.
Here are a few WEB sites for you to look at.

HOW DO I CONNECT TO INTERNET WITH SYVANIA NETBOOK

First, you will need a place to connect to the internet. An ethernet cable (landline connection, wired connection) or a wireless connection (via wifi). You will only be able to connect via wifi if your laptop has a wireless network card as not all laptops do (though most new ones do have a wifi card).

For a wired connection, if you have a plcae then all you should need is to connect an ethernet cable from your PC to the wall or place with the interent service (home, cafe, etc).

For a wireless connection, you will need to open and view all wireless networks. Connect to the one you want to use. You may need a security code (WEP Key) or another passcode of a sort. Enter the passcode and you should be on your way. Let us know how it goes!

Cannot connect samsung Galaxy tab to internet

Your question is very messy. I don't understand what are you trying to say.

Connecting to Internet need WiFi (your home wifi through your router, cafe wifi hotspot, etc) or GPRS (data connect through your carrier/SIM, like 3G, 2G, HSDPA, Edge).

For WiFi, normally you'll need a security key.

For GPRS, you'll need some settings from your carrier.

Trouble Downloading WebPages from Public Wifi Sites

it could be a reason the the router at the cafe is not configured for VISTA
and there are some router settings which needs to be done
or it could be an issue regarding profile(related to router) or could be a channel issue
provide me your system's service tag located at the bottom pannel of your system, turn it upside down you will find a bar coded sticker which has a 7 digit alphanumeric number
i will be able to provide you an accurate solution

WiFi not recognized on Compaq laptop

this can happen sometimes, just go to network connections in control panel, right click on the wireless icon and click dissable (or press the rellevant button on your notebook) Restart pc and then right click on the icon again and select enable. There should be an icon in your taskbar, right click and select view network connections, and then see if your router is listed and click connect.
