SOURCE: how to format raw sandisk

Alright, plug the player in with your USB cable.

Open "My Computer" and find in on the list of drives and CD-Roms. It will be called something like "Audio Device" or "Removable Storage Device". Make sure you find the correctly icon for the player.

Right click the player then select the format option. You'll probably want to use a FAT32 format as it is the usual format for MP3 players and flash drives of the like. This will totally erase any files on the player, so be forewarned before you complete this.

Raw file system is basically the media in it's standard state. All the information is recorded as zero's and this is how your computer is seeing it. It is either reporting incorrectly due to bad file system error, or simple was formatted incorrectly.

Give that a try, let me know what happens. :) Hope it helps.

Windows 7 will not recognize my COBY 705 4-G.

For every thing you want to connect to an USB connector, you FIRST have to install the software. Most of the time the software comes on a disk in the package or there is a link on paper, you have to use to get the software.
In the software is a driver, so the device is recognised by the computer (drivers for different computers must be included) and then there is software so you can manage the device from your computer.
Please read the manual before you start installing. And check what computer is needed.

I have a coby dp 151 i can not find the drivers for it.... i need to find them for it. i can not formatt my coby also

there is no drivers for this, it comes with software (installation cd) or its preloaded on the unit itself.

You have to use the software to transfer photos to the keychain,

If you look on the back of your kecyahin, it will say DP151 (SX, MP, BW, etc).

BW has the software preloaded
SX can be downloaded from here:

If you have deleted the program from your computer, you should be able to plug the Coby player (TURNED OFF) to the computer and re-install it.

If Coby Manager program is no longer on the Coby player (If you re-formatted the player), you can get a copy of the MANAGER here:

CobyMedia Manager fix for MP822 (Windows XP/2000/Vista)

Don't let it throw you that it says it's for the MP822 - it also works great for the MP610

1. Install Coby Media Manager from download

2. Open Media Manager

3. Plug your COBY player (THAT IS TURNED OFF) into the USB port - it will show up in the "DEVICE" tab

I purchased 2 Coby MP600. I thought I was downloading music the wrong way on one of them, so I did a format. Now when I plug the device in, the device media manager, I get this message" Device is not...

I will suggest you to try to connect it to your PC on different USB-port first. If all the USB hub gives you the same message, then try to connect it on another computer/laptop. This is to make sure if the USB-cable is working properly or not.

And if you get the same 'Device is not plugged currently' message when trying it on different USB hub and different PC, you'll have to update your MP3's driver.

When i double clck on internal storage on my mp705. there are no folder or anything for that matter. it used to show as removable device g. now it just shows a Coby 705

Well, when i first got mine, I plugged it into my computer and opened Windows Media Player, and all my music sync'd with it. When I went to delete and organize my music none of it showed up... A quick way to fix this is to plug it in and have it in USB mode, then go to "MY Computer" and right click the MP4 player or "Removable Hardware" or whatever your computer calls it and click on "Format" and format it, it will take everything off, but then you can drag and drop your files into it and you can access them when you plug it back in... Hope this helps...

Coby mp305 usb stick w/ fm radio display says file system error & wont allow me to access menu to use fm radio or anything. cobys website has proven to be worthless. any suggestions would be appreciated....

I just fixed my co workers device. Plug in the device into the PC after it plugged into the pc, the pc will detect the device after the device is detected. In My Computer, double click on the coby device, it will bring you to the the storage device, its also named coby something. right click on it and format. You'll lose all your data but the file system error message will be fixed. Reload music and you're back and running.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Ideas to explore further:
  • the first computer is infected with a virus that then transferred to your 1Gb Coby MP3 audio player. The virus wrote a script on the MP3, whenever the MP3 is plug to another PC, if will infect the computer and make itself inaccessible so as not to be able to be erased;
  • hardware, for some reason, the electronics of the MP3 was affected upon removal from the 1st PC;
  • you could try a format of the MP3 but that of course would delete all of its contents. Since normal recognition of Windows is not possible, pls try to download, install and run HP Flash Utility.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

I have a coby dp-161 and cannot get the pictures to install.

We had the same problem and you won't believe how simple the actual fix was!!! When you plug the USB plug into the keychain device or whatever device you are using (in our case it was a keychain), make absolutely certain that the plug is pushed in all the way (it is tough to push in) until it actually clicks and all you see is the black part of the USB plug. Then try your software. It should work!!!
