Philips 55P8341 switching between inputs...

My tv must have a ghost standing in front of it turning it on and off. Also it will switch between inputs as it sees fit. Is this an unusual problem? Is it an expensive repair?

Your horizontal output chip is going bad after it heats up to a certain point it fails and shuts your set down. After a while if not replaced your set will fail to power up at all.

Tv turns on and off by itself

Picture tubes rarely go bad. You have a bad connection or something on the circuit board that is breaking down due to the temperature change . Probably an easy fix. Not something an unqualified person can do though. Your local shop should fix this for about $60-100.

Your set is shutdown for protective reasons due to a failed component in the stand by or operating voltage circuits. Most likely the volume down button on the front of the TV or the switch that it activates is sticking. Should be an easy fix otherwise.
