Sounds like a screen inverter/backlight problem, try conecting it to a p/c monitor, if it powers up ok it is the inverter

Hello,

Now let's begin. If the laptop does not power on using the batteries, then try to power it using the AC adapter. Pay attention and see whether the LED on the laptop lights up, signaling that the adapter was detected. If yes, then your power jack works. If the notebook still does not power on, disassemble the laptop and remove the batteries. Look first for the CMOS battery and take it out.

If your particular laptop model has more than one battery, like a multi-port battery or a handle battery, then take those out too. This should serve as a master reset. Try powering on using the AC adapter. If it still does not power on, then read on.

Your best bet is that the problem is memory-related. What you need to do is re-seat the memory modules. If there are more than one, then try swapping them between each other and try different slots. Try booting again. If it does not work, then try running with only one module - this way, you can tell whether one is faulty.

Narrow down the problem by removing each "unnecessary" component. Disassemble the laptop and remove the HDD, CD/DVD drives, and the modem and/or wireless card(s). If possible, take out the sound card module (if separate). To minimize the possible causes, you may disconnect the LCD panel as well. Try running this way. If it does boot, then try connecting each connector one at a time, booting up in between to localize the problem.

On the other hand, if you have stripped it down to a bare-bone laptop and it still refuses to POST, then chances are your motherboard might be the root of the problem. Another option is temporarily replacing the memory modules with good ones. This way, you can eliminate that from the list of possible causes. This leaves the motherboard and CPU. Take apart everything; re-seat both the CPU and motherboard. Try again.

As a last resort, if you are familiar with using a multimeter, then try checking the power button and see whether it actually "switches" or not. You may also monitor the voltages during the VRM circuitry (whether or not it gets power). Verify the resistances between the common places (such as verifying whether the motherboard is grounded or not - you know, those metallic rings near the screw holes).

Nevertheless, if you still can't diagnose the problem and the laptop gives absolutely no sign of life, then take it to a repair center. But chances are that you have found it by now, at least let's hope so. Now let's talk about other problem scenarios.

If your notebook always "forgets" the system clock, then it is almost always a faulty CMOS battery. Disassemble the laptop, locate the battery, measure it with a multimeter or voltmeter, and, if need be, get a replacement. If your laptop powers on but beeps like there's no tomorrow, then those "beeps" stand for an error code. Find out which BIOS your notebook has (perhaps it's not AMI, Award, or Phoenix). Then do a quick Google search to find out what those beep codes stand for on that particular BIOS version. More often than not, it indicates a memory-related problem. As I suggested earlier, try re-seating and playing around with the modules.

Thanks for using fixya

My acer wnt start up or boot is bios missing dll blue screen is all i ger

If you have a boot menu the problem is likely not the Bios. No beep codes? Some PC's will give hardware error codes in the form of long and short beeps through the MB speaker. Otherwise a bad boot sector on the hard drive would likely give you an error message, like ; NTLDR is missing
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
Check the power and ribbon wire connections to the hard drive. If you have recovery disc/'s, doesnt hurt to try! Otherwise its a new operating system, new hard drive, and searching for drivers. Good luck to you!

I read your description carefully, there is no dought in my mind that the motherboard is the issue, acer is well known for problems in that area and unfortuneately there is nothing more you can do, generally I find they get to hot, cooling fans fail, and numerous other situations.

OK The only thing I can access is on the screen that first comes up and that's the acer screen. At the bottom left has press F2 enter setup. I press F2. Information, Main, Security, Boot, and Exit appear....

Yep, sounds like a crashed / crashing hard drive. Why can't you use the cd / dvd drive? Does it not work? You're gonna need some kind of boot up cd to start troubleshooting that laptop. XP is usually my choice.

Powering up but after a few seconds it powers down again.

Check the fan and make sure it is running. It will shut off if it gets too hot which can be caused by a fan failure. If the fan is okay, you may need to reseat the heatsink and reapply fresh thermal compound to it. Oh and please take a moment to give this solution a fixya rating. Thanks! :c)

Acer Aspire 5010.. Power on, but Blank screen/ hard drive light also not.

Hi,
This could be a Power/Switch Problem.
Faulty Hard-Drive.
Solution:- Leave the laptop turned Of And charge the battery to Full Capacity. ( usually between 4-16 Hours ) depending on capacity.
This will also fully charge the CMOS ( memory battery )
then boot the laptop up, and see if this solves your problem.
If not i,d suggest running a scandisk or hard-drive diagnostic program, to ensure that you have no Viruses-bad sectors on the hard-drive.
If you need further assistance please don,t hesitate to ask for more help and advice.

ACER laptop 5050

Its NOT the hard drive itself. Its the master boot record on the hard drive that has failed. The master boot record is like an index or an address book of a hard drive. It hold records of whats on the hard disk and the physical location of files and directory's. What most likely happened was the computer was NOT shut down correctly and a power serge corrupted the master boot record or someone accidentally or purposely deleted files they should not have. If you are not able to follow jmorgan123 advice, the easiest way to fix this is to re-install windows using the recovery disk (operating system cd), HOWEVER you WILL loose all your files on your hard drive as you will need to reformat your drive during the re-install. If you are unsure how to install windows put the system recovery disc in the drive and follow the on screen prompts. If you still can get your computer working after you try a re-install of windows, maby your best bet is to return the computer under the warranty.
