Here's one trick to power up the laptop:

The battery may be too low for the power supply to charge it AND power up the laptop.
1. Remove the battery from the laptop
2. Plug in power adapter
3. Turn ON laptop; it should startup
4. Logon (if required)
5.Wait for the OS (Windows?) to settle down....
6. Put battery back in
7. Allow battery ro recharge a few hours.
Optional:
(8. Obtain a heavier-duty (more watts) power adapter.)
(8A. You will have a spare to keep at your desk and one in the case)

If that doesn't work, then perhaps the power jack on the laptop is damaged. Check to see if the power plug at the laptop is "loose". If so, then:
1. Move the power plug to the left or right to see if the power lights on the laptop change on/off.
2. If they change, move the cord to whatever will keep it ON and charge the battery.
3. The jack may have come disconected (un-soldered) from the motherboard.

UNLESS:
1. The power cord plug may be defective. You said that the power adapter is ok; however, if your conclusion is based on the fact that the LED light is ON on the adapter, it means that the power is at least getting to the converter part, but not necessarily to the plug at the end of the cord.
2. If you can further test it ... on another computer or voltmeter or use another adapter on your laptop (swap with someone, but don't use anything other than a Compaq power adapter).

I hope the first solution works! Please comment... to let us know...

Compaq evo n1015v will not boot up when power is pressed

For this kind of issue, please follow up the following steps to check:

1.confirm the battery and ac adapter connect the laptop normally.Maybe the bad connect lead to this problem. If there are no lights when you turn on laptop, one of possible reason is that your adapter is malfunction.

2.the second possible cause is laptop dc jack failure. If the dc jack is broken or loose, you are required to replace it or repair it.

3.Another possible reason is that there is something wrong with laptop motherboard. For this situation, it includs two kinds of possibility,a failure in an electronic circuit and BGA malfunction.

For more detailed reasons and solutions, please have a look at the following article:http://www.ifitjams.com/lappower.htm

If you verify your laptop adapter is dead and you plan to order a new one, I recommend one for you on the basis of your laptop model:

I Have A Compaq Evo N600c Laptop No Power Help!!!

Yeah it could be. Always use the correct adapter mentioned for your laptop. Otherwise it could harm the inner wirings and the motherboard. Always go for the right adapter. If it was any motherboard problem, atleast it would've blinked. So this might be the problem of your adapter or may be of the power button.

No power

You sound like you have either a dead power supply inside or a dead motherboard. Best thing is to open it up and test each. replace the culprit.

Power failuer

First off it?s a fairly risky proposition to plug a power adaptor from one device into another without making absolutely sure it supplies the correct voltage, amperage and has the correct polarity. Your laptop needs 18.5 volts, 3.5 amps, and approximately 65 watts to charge the battery. If you power adaptor is less that 3.5 amps it will shut down to prevent any damage so that?s probably what is happening. I would suggest going to the HP (now owns Compaq) or Ebay web sites and purchasing a replacement there.
