Check the cable first. It's easy - put another one. If it works - change the cable. If Not - check the PC input by connecting another similar camera. If it works with another camera, then Your IEEE camera port is broken and needs to be repaired. And the order of connection must be: 1. Power off camera. 2. Put IEEE cable on it. 3. Plug another connector of cable on computer. 4. Power on the camera. DON´T TRY TO CONNECT A CAMERA IN A PLAY MODE, it probably can destroy Your camera IEEE port. Sincerely.

I want to connect my sony DCR-TRV260 handycam to my computer...what cables do I need?

Depending on what type of connector your computer has, you will need to get a firewire cable (also known as IEEE-1394a cable). The connector on your camcorder is a 4-pin connector. You will either have that same looking connector on your computer (some laptops now have the 4-pin connector) or a 6-pin connector (D shaped). 884068d.jpg This picture is of a 4-pin (right side of pic) to 6-pin (left side of pic) cable. These are available at many electronic stores and online. To be safe, have your camcorder powered off when connecting to the computer. Once you have connected the cables, turn your camcorder on and insert the tape that you would like to transfer. Your computer should recognize it and install the appropriate driver. Most computers have some sort of free video editing program (like Windows Movie Maker). Depending on the software, you may have the option to import the entire video tape or only parts.

Hope this has helped you.

I dnt hav usb cable for my handy cam DCR-HC52E ...

Product Summary
4-pin to 4-pin IEEE 1394 iLink FireWire Cable dv out to laptop Connect and transfer home movie from your digital camcorder to Notebook computer.

You will need a Firewire port on your computer, also known as a DV port or IEEE 1394, to use this cable. This is NOT a USB cable.

This DV cable will connect your laptop (notebook)
NOTE: for some models, becuase of no DV jack on the body, this cable connects to docking station/cradle instead of connecting directly to your camcorder.

Advice was given to me to buy firewire cable as my sony handycam DCR-TRV22E wont recognize by my mac OS X ver. 10.6.6? what type of firewire shld i buy?

I'm glad to provide the information about the required firewire cable.
All Sony Camcorders are having 4 pin firewire/i.LINK port.
You can purchase a Firewire cable depends upon the number of pins available on the firewire port on the Computer.
If you have 4 pin firewire port in the Computer, you can purchase a 4 to 4 pin Firewire cable.
If you have 6 pin Firewire port in your Computer, you can purchase 4 to 6 pin i.LINK cable.
In rare cases, it may also 4 to 9 pin.
Please refer the manual of your computer or contact apple to get the information about the number of pins available on the Computer.
You may also get back to me with the model # of the Computer so that I might be able to check the pin information.
Thanks for understanding.
If you need any further assistance, please let me know..

How can I get Windows 7 Movie Maker to recognise input from my Sony DCR TRV18E Handycam?

On page 230 of the user manual, it describes how to transfer movies from the camera to a computer using an i.Link (IEEE 1394) cable. You will need the 4 pin i.Link cable and an IEEE 1394 connector on your computer in order to do this. You cannot use the USB cable to transfer the video from this camcorder -- you can only transfer still images using the USB cable.
You will have to buy this i.Link cable and (if you don't have a IEEE 1394 port on your computer) a IEEE 1394 adapter card for you desktop computer. If your laptop computer doesn't have a IEEE 1394 adapter, then you're pretty much out of luck.
Once you have the i.Link and 1394 issues resolved, then Movie Maker should then recognize the camera.

How do I transfer my 8mm tapes to the PC? I'm not technically inclined.

You will use the DV (firewire) jack on your camcorder. This is located under your A/V out jack (towards the front of the camcorder under the light). 884068d.jpg
This pic is of a 4-pin to 6-pin cable. These are available at many electronic stores and online. To be safe, have your camcorder powered off when connecting to the computer. Once you have connected the cables, turn your camcorder on (playback mode) and insert the tape that you would like to transfer. Your computer should recognize it and install the appropriate driver. Most computers have some sort of free video editing program (like Windows Movie Maker). Depending on the software, you may have the option to import the entire video tape or only parts.

I have a Canon 7.4V video camera and want to connect my camera to the computer. How do I do that?

Instructions:
  1. Connect an i.LINK (firewire) cable (also known as IEEE 1394) to the i.LINK port on the digital camcorder.
  2. Connect the other end of the i.LINK cable to the computer. NOTE: The computer i.LINK ports and capture cards may have either 4-pin or 6-pin connections. If your computer only has a 6-pin i.LINK port, then it will be necessary to use a 4-pin to 6-pin i.LINK cable.
  3. Turn on the digital camcorder by moving the POWER switch to the VTR position.
  4. Cue the camcorder tape to the beginning of the video footage.
  5. Turn on the computer. Your computer should recognize your camcorder and automatically install the needed driver.
  6. Start the video capture software on the computer.
  7. Begin playing the recorded video in the camcorder.
  8. Begin importing the video with the capture software. It should now be possible to copy the video using the video capture software if the computer hardware and software are configured correctly.
Hope this has helped you.

How do I transfer recordings from tape to dvd?

If this is a Dig8 camcorder, it should have a DV jack. From this, you can use an iLink cable (firewire cable) to plug it directly into your computer. If you have a DVD burner on your computer, this should work for you.

Sony digital camcorders use i.LINK ports with 4 pins.
Hope this helps you.

Firewire problem

It should work. Laptops have a 4pin connection. There is a video on how to specifically connect digital cameras to laptops using 4pin to 4 pin IEEE 1394 cable. So it should work... The video is on www.HandBookLive.com under Electronics category. It doesn't cover the software because all softwares would be different, but you can see that it uses 4 pin to 4 pin. You can double check on this site though.
