I dowloaded a driver for my windows xp professional but every time I print I get the red light come on. When I press the green button on the top, I then get the last couple of things I printed run off again. Obviously I can get it to print but I have to turn everything off between print runs to get it back to standard mode.

Re: HP laserjet 2500
I would recommend going back to the site and chosing a different driver.
There is a PCL 5 a PCL 6, PS drivers and some patches on the HP site.
You sometimes have to try different drivers to perform with your specific machine.

Faded prints are possible due to following reasons.

I will guide you with simple steps first, if this dosen't work working with laser box is little tough & time consuming, hence will describe later.

HP Support says “If the Ready light is blinking, and the Go light is on, it indicates Data in the printer memory is waiting to be printed. Pressing the GO button prints from Tray 1 or from another tray if Tray 1 is empty and the paper size is supported in the other Tray. Pressing the JOB CANCEL button cancels the current job and the printer returns to ready. Make sure the paper size is correctly defined.
on printer properties try to set on sharing tab check marks on : share this printer- render print jobs on client computers- list in the directory ..( all of this must be chacked).. on port tab see on what port is printer ..(tcp/ip - or virtual), on advance tab.. check alway available, spool print documents first., under security see if you have set group permission.. if you did not ,, add the computers to use this printer ( in most cases this is the problem).... if all of the above s set , and you can still not able to print .. enter in run...services.msc... find print spooler and restart it .. then try to print.
on note pad or word you should select the paper size first because it might set to a different size. when you click file click print click properties or printing preference and choose what size of paper you have in your tray and then click ok. print ok. check the printer paper tray setting to make sure the paper tray side guide is right agains the paper. I hope this will solve your problem.
