Question about Brother HL 2140 Laser Printer
I read on this site that you can reset the printer to fix this, but I forgot how to reset this
Of you need to remove the toner cartage the if you look on the roller side of it you will see a tiny yellow tab on the right side I believe that is the corona wire cleaning tab. You press down or hold on to it and slide it back and forth left to right thus cleaning the corona wire.
Also the message corona wire needs cleaning often is displayed close to the end of the toner life so after cleaning and reseating the toner back in the printer wait for it to self test 10 sec or so and the press three times the blue large (only) button on the printer. You need to press it at a good speed for the printer to respond. Press to fast it won't work.
This will give you a printer setting page on it the toner life will be displayed along with estimated drum life and good deal of other information.

To RESET the Drum Press and hold down the white Go button for about 4 seconds until all the LEDs light up. Once all four LEDs are lit, release the Go button.
To RESET the printer back to all default settings
a Turn off the printer.
b Make sure that the front cover is closed and the power cord is plugged in.
c Hold down the Go button as you turn on the power switch. Keep the Go button pressed down until the
Toner, Drum and Error LEDs light up. Release the Go button. Make sure that the Toner, Drum and
Error LEDs are off.
d Press the Go button seven times. Make sure that all the LEDs light up to indicate the printer has
been reset to its default settings.

Tips for a great answer:
Jul 26, 2013 | Brother HL-5240 Laser Printer
Below the drum is assy. that houses two very fine gold plated wires that do two things since the paper goes between these two wires and the drum the first is transfers the image on to the paper from the drum, the second one prevent the paper from sticking to the drum. One is or both are bad, BROKEN? Remove the assy. and replace both. They are very fine and fragile do not lose the springs. If that does not work you might have bad ends on the assy. after a while the plastic breakdowns and allow the voltage to go to ground. The wire carry around 2000 volts during the copy process. None during power off :) Open close the front door resets the code.
Try this site for parts corona wires for xfer and sep assy.
