Question about Microsoft Outlook Express

1 Answer

I am running xp with sp3 and all fixes for xp applied. t is trunning microsoft's internet browser version 8 because of hte need for security fixes etc. That is working ok. I have backed up outlook express using a 3rd party utility so that all files and folders can be searched, and accessessed and restored including any attachments in case the email is lost. All of sudden with xp is booted and outlook express is loaded the folders appear and you can preview the email messages but when you try to open any of the emials the outloook express program indicates that it must be closed and then thelaptop freezes up and must be rebooted. there appear to not be any serious registgry problems based on scans with Fixit Utilities version 8 etc. What is the possible soution since I can not find any fix on hte microsoft web site or technical blogs ?

I'm running XP Home SP3 with IE 6. Need to upgrade to later browser...7 or 8. Can I skip 7& go right to 8? Is this a good idea? My computer dates back to 2003?

It would be a good idea to upgrade from IE6 to IE8. There have been many security fixes and upgrades to IE since IE6 was released and even after IE7 too.

I would suggest upgrading to the latest version possible for your computer!

WHICH IS THE IE SUITABLE FOR WINDOWS XP SP-3

Generally it's recommended to use the latest version of the a browser to avoid security flaws and such. However what I personally recommend is to install a different browser such as Firefox or Chrome.

I also recommend scanning for any spyware or viruses on your computer that could be slowing it down.

I want my windows xp pro sp3 operating have licence, how could i do that

Hello Erwin,

All you need to do is purchase your own genuine license. FixYa does not provide free licenses acquired over the internet since this is software piracy which is illegal by law. By having a genuine license, you could do windows update which would allow your computer to apply the latest fixes and security patches.

Cannot connect to internet

WOW SP3 was the culprit!

Here are several links to read and decide whether to use SP3 or not. I personally created my own SP3 cd from an SP3 iso file and installed it on my systems. I have not encountered any problems .(knock on wood)

New and Enhanced Functionality in SP3:

Networking
"Black Hole" Router Detection: Now, this detection is on by default and is for detecting routers that are silently discarding packets. This feature is also available in Vista
NAP Network Access Protection: Policy enforcement that protects networks. It is now included Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, and Windows XP SP3. Available in RTM (release to manufacturers) version of Vista

Security
Descriptive Security Options User Interface: More descriptive text, hopefully this will provide better explanations of options.
Enhanced Security for Admin. And Service policy entries: All new policy is present by default and after authentication cannot be removed.
Microsoft Kernel Mode Cryptographic Module: A new Kernel module that fixes a known problem with Microsoft's cryptographic application.
Windows Product Activation: Users can now complete the operating system installation without providing a product key. The keyless install option will allow installs of XP SP3 to proceed without using a product key for 30 days. This option is also available for Vista SP1 will not update your Internet Explorer 6 to Internet Explorer 7. But it will update either your IE 6 or your IE7. From what I've been able to tell so far, the same is true of Windows Media Player. The update does not install the current Media Player 11 as a part of the fixes or additions.

Per PC World:

"Since SP3 was supposed to be mostly a bug-fix/patch consolidation release, the unexpected speed boost comes as a nice bonus," Barth said. "In fact, XP SP3 is shaping up to be a 'must-have' update for the majority of users who are still running Redmond's not-so-latest and greatest desktop OS."

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
