If no one has touched it and you have not had any sever power fluctuations or brown outs then not much apart from a faulty controller board. If you can switch it back on to normal operation just keep an eye on it to make sure it does not happen again but if it does keep happening see if you can see any patter of when it happens such as any heavy electrical devices turning on or off such as the washing machine, drier, electric cooker, welder, etc then get a repair man in to check the mains power and / or the controller board.

One of the biggest problems is with the new refrigerants (R134A in this case). If the unit gets overheated it actually causes the salts in the moisture releases and travels throughout the system eventually clogging the metering device (capillary tube). The only thing that can be done is to have the system flushed, new drier, evacuated and re-charged.
Then make sure there is enough air circulating and keep the coils squeaky clean.

My side by side, counter depth Fridigaire fridg is not cooling

I believe you can still go fishing if you look at the defrost control board. Easy to change and just put some things in a standby for now. Why pay a Technician? I need you to communicate with me so let me know, Sea Breeze

The fridge side by side door. Freezer & fridge stop working I can hear the motor trying to go but doesn't cool

When you say motor I assume compressor. No start compressors can be an electrical component like the start relay or the compressor itself. Eric

6 year old dead fridge!

Nope, the fridge was in defrost mode. had sears home repair tech out who showed me the defrost timer on inside top of fridge side compartment. wish my manual had pointed that out! back in business.

PS. used a leaf blower to remove 6 years of dust buildup underneath as nothing else would do it. what a mess

Freezer works great, as it should, but fridge is only keeping items room temp. I have the setting at the coldest setting: #7. What is wrong?

Here's what I did, I defrosted! I found out that the fridge temp is monitored and maintained by the freezer. Because we had a power outage one night, my freezer thawed while we all slept and then when power came back on, freezer re-froze but this cause an ice build up on the vent on the back wall of the freezer. Well, ice must have been in one (or more) vents, causing blocked air flow in my top half of the refrigerator. I turned the dial in the freezer to "off" which also shuts down power to the fridge half. I then unplugged the refrigerator, hauled all my food items into coolers, opened the freezer door and refrigerator doors and left them open for a little over six hours. I took advantage of this empty fridge and freezer and wiped everything down. After this time frame passed, I plugged the fridge back in, turned the freezer dial to my preferred freezer temp, and wah-lah! Within two hours I had a cold fridge and solid ice cubes in the freezer. I then put all my food items back into their appropriate compartments, and went to work. Bear in mind, a total 24-hour period is needed for the fridge to re-set itself, but still, after two hours the fridge was noticeably cold. Who knew, besides our parents' generation: DEFROST!

It might be that your fridge went into something called 'demo mode' that shuts the compressor down so as not to waste electricity on the showroom floor. The freezer and fridge sides both start to warm up, but the temperatures shown on the outside of the door never change, so you don't know you have a problem until you open the fridge or freezer and find you have a melted mess. My Samsung is 7 years old and we run into this problem frequently when our power is on and off, like just recently with hurricane Ike. Per the Samsung website, the cure for 'demo mode' is to unplug the fridge for 1 minute then plug it back in. They also suggested pressing Power Freeze and Freezer Temp together for 8 seconds until you hear a chime to cancel demo mode. Good luck. I really dislike this machine.
