Re: Damaged screen

It's pretty expensive to have it replaced but it can be done.

Canvass repair prices first and decide whether to have it repaired or replaced with a new computer.

Try using the external port and attach a monitor there so you can still use it at home...

I just completed a screen replacement on my Dell Inspiron N5030 laptop. The screen required replacement after it fell to the ground. The replcaement went fine. However, the machine never booted to

If it won't get as far as the BIOS menu the mother board maybe damaged, if it passes the POST but can't boot, try removing the hdd and check for damage.

It's possible you cracked a chip or two when it dropped, or damaged a connection between a diode, capacitor or so.

It's also possible that a ribbon has come loose within the device, which will need to be tightened again. But your message is also a bit unclear.

If the screen isn't responding, you may need to tighten the screens ribbon cable, after that if it isn't working the GPU may be cracked. Afterwards, if that doesn't work you may have damaged the mobo itself.

If a USB port isn't working, the usb's connection to the mobo needs to be re-soldered. Or a replacement USB may be needed.

You're going to have to bring it in for work possibly, unless you want to try to fix it yourself, in that case you can order replacement parts for laptop on eBay since companies themselves do not sell replacement parts.

Possibly wait a day and see if it works afterwards, when something hits the ground it has a lot of friction go through it which will cause a lot of heat to it.

It went in for service when we got it back it only turned on once. now when we turn it on the screen is black and on the top left corner the cursor is flashing and if you press on a key it makes a loud...

There are two possibilities, damaged memory and hard drive not detected or damaged. Most likely is, the hard drive is not detected or damaged. The characteristics of the hard drive is damaged, when you turn on your laptop, you are like the sound of this

To be sure, the hard drive is in trouble, press F2 to enter BIOS, check your hard drive, or check the hard drive is detected or not.

If the hard drive is not detected and didn't sound the hard drive is damaged (like in the video), the hard drive can be repaired and the data can be saved. Solution: take it to the Service Center.

If the hard drive is not detected and the sound of damaged hard drives, optical damage your hard drive. Solution: replace the hard drive.

I own a Dell inspiron mini 10. I left it in my car and now i can only see about 25% of the screen due to heat damage. Is their anyway this can be fixed or would I need to buy a new one?

I'm affraid that buying a new one will be the less expensive solution.

U can try and call it in with dell, but if they repair it out of warranty, they will replace your screen, so Y must keep an amount arround 100-150$ in mind

kind regards

NEVER, leave your laptop in a car, even not in the trunck if possible and defenitely not on a seat...

Compaq presario 700. The screen, after running for about 5-10 min, gets white lines horiz. and vert. and then goes all white. I have to turn it off for a while and it goes away. (for 5-10 min)

The monitor heat sheild is probably damaged. If you don't have a warranty then you will probably have to replace the lcd panel on the computer.

Hook an external monitor up to it and verify that that screen doesn't scramble. if it does not and the lcd does then the lcd panel is damaged. if both do then you have a motherboard problem with the graphics card. either overheating or damaged. There is also a possibility of memory issues but the first 2 things i mentioned usually over this problem

I repaired the female power jack in my Averatec and must have compromised something else in the process as now my screen has two large black quarter sized black spots, on quarter of the screen at upper...

If you put any pressure on the screen while repairing the power jack then yes, the LCD will need to be replaced. If you are certain that you did not physically damage the screen during the repair then it is possible that you damaged the motherboard (which houses the video processor). If the motherboard was damaged I would say it's time for a new laptop.

Screen Damaged

It's definitely a damaged screen and will need to be replaced. Your best bet on a replacement screen at a decent price is Ebay. This is where I get almost all replacement screens from. It's not too difficult to change out. Try one of these links for a breakdown diagram for your machine.
