Can do, it just costs money.
Microsoft Works is the program you're referring to.
It is a licensed paid for program.

It may not be practical to purchase a copy of Microsoft Office, depending on your financial situation. But you can use open-source software to open and edit spreadsheets, even files that were created in Excel.

You can use LibreOffice: http://www.libreoffice.org/
Or OpenOffice: http://www.openoffice.org/

I would like to know if htere is a free version out there?

If you don't want to pay for it then you have two options:
1. Use live.com. Microsoft office has free online versions of their office suite. Simply create a live.com account and anytime you have access to the internet you can use their web applications and download files you create from this website to any computer. You can also upload files to be worked on to the website and edit them.

2. Use OpenOffice.org. Its an alternative to Microsoft Office. It has similar applications and it can edit an save Microsoft Office files. You can get the suite from http://download.openoffice.org/.

I hope this helps!

How to use vlookup in openoffice using different sheets

=VLOOKUP(A2;Sheet1.$A$3:D27;2;0)

The cell I created this formula in was Sheet 3 Cell C9 - to show the different sheets
A2 is the cell I want to look up
Sheet1.A3:D27 is the range of cells that contains the data I want to return, The first column relates directly to cell C9 is Sheet 3. I locked the first cell in my range as I wanted to apply the same formula across other cells hence the $
2 is the number of the column that has the data I want to return, I had a choice in this formula of 4 columns
0 is the value to complete the formula
