Question about Brother HL-2040 Laser Printer
Drum light reset below
Press and hold down Go button for about 4 seconds until all the LEDs light up. Once all 4 LEDs are lit, release the Go button

I have the HL-2070. Great printer.
Shut down the machine. Consider unplugging it. (You never know...)
Remove the drum/toner cartridge assembly. Find the blue tab near the FRONT of the drum. (It has a little arrow on it.)
That tab is meant to clear debris from the front of the drum. This could be your problem. Slide the tab back and forth several times. BE SURE TO RETURN THE TAB TO THE ORIGINAL POSITION which is marked by another arrow in the grey plastic.
Return the drum to the machine. Turn it on and see what you get.
Report your results here when you are done.
Keep in mind that you may be looking at replacing the drum.

Check if the drum itself is not worn out or scratched, if not it would also be helpful to see if there is something stuck along the print path.
