CCD going BAD call Samsung they will do it FREE of charge as it is a known problem after some time the pics will be total BLACK and BLANK pls call them and ask them about BAD CCD

Background
i have a samsung i85 and it was working fine - sony_ccd_failure.jpg
Inthe first half of October, 2005, a number of digital camera andcamcorder manufacturers issued service advisories involving a range ofdigital camera models (as well as some digital camcorders and PDAs thatincorporate image sensors). In each case, the story was similar - CCD(image sensor) failures, particularly in conditions of high heat andhumidity, led to cameras capturing images with either no picture atall, or with extreme distortion and severe purple or green color casts. An example of the latter symptom, courtesy of the Konica Minolta Europewebsite, can be seen further down this page. We first started hearingabout this problem in late September and early October, 2005, with asignificant increase in reader emails about it in the first week ofOctober. The problem understandably caused considerable concern amongour readers, with many wondering whether this was an ongoing problemthat could affect current cameras.
Initial service advisoriesby Sony, Canon, Fujifilm and Konica Minolta were soon followed byannouncements by Nikon, Ricoh, and Olympus. Affected cameras were allmanufactured between 2002 and 2004, the underlying problems haveapparently been found and corrected, so no cameras currently on themarket are affected. (We are assured by sources that new cameraspurchased today will not be affected by this problem. See the "What caused this problem" section at the bottom of this document, for a more detailed discussion of possible causes.)
Wehere at Imaging Resource did a little digging into the problem, and itappears that the problems trace to certain models of image sensor chipsmanufactured by Sony between 2002 and 2004. (Fujifilm has stated thatthey manufacture their own CCD chips, so it's not clear whether or notthe problems with their cameras are in fact related to those of theother makers.)

What the problem looks like
Theproblem can take any of several forms, but all involve severe colorshifts and/or severe distortions of the image. The images below showtwo examples (courtesy of Konica Minolta) of what the problem mightlook like, if your camera falls prey to it. In the early stages of theproblem, the camera may still capture recognizable images, but with awashed-out appearance and a strong magenta or green tint.

Is the device working fine? I think so. Because even I have a about 6 years old Samsung C100 that has developed a line right across the LCD. But it is working fine other than the line. Then I also dealt with another Samsung that had two line across the LCD. I think there is something wrong with the LCD. If it is working fine, then just keep using it till it lasts. That is my suggestion. Otherwise, you can get the LCD replaced or the circuitry checked and rectified.

Hello.

This is a hardware problem. The cable attached to the LCD might be loose or broken. If you are good with the camera then only open it.

Thanks
Smith

Black screen on samsung i85 please could you advise

You can check menu settigns there? Take pics and this appears black in the pc monitor after transference or download pics? If your answer is yes, sound like a LCD problem and need replace it to solve it.

The other choice, could be a malfunctioning CCD (Charge Coupled Device) image sensor... in both cases (LCD or CCD) this isn't a job that you could solve yourself; this wrong include distorted images or abnormal colors, scratchy purple lines, blank or black pictures, and/or black videos with good sound being recorded on the camera's flash card.

I suggest check this link for additional details in this previous solutions for an Defective CCD and next contact your Samsung service.
I strongly suggest (taking into consideration the age of your camera) to evaluate the cost of repair versus the cost of a new camera with similar features, before making a final desicion.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.

How do i unlock a card in a samsung i85 camera

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Repair or sell as parts or repair or as is on a site such as Ebay.
When you cannot start the camera, then there is not much else to do.
It sounds as if there is something wrong in the circuits or the power end of the unit. In any case not good news.
