Question about Dell PowerEdge 1650 Server

Cannot Boot Dell Poweredge 1650. Stuck on Dell splash screen

When I turn my Dell Poweredge 1650, the Dell splash screen comes up with the progress bar and says BIOS Revision A11. The progress gets to about 25 percent then stops and never gets any nor does it boot up. I have done the CMOS reset, confirmed all fans are functional and even tested the memory. It appears all peripherals are as I can open the DVD-Rom, the harddrives light up green. The system status light blinks blue. I cannot get any further - no access to BIOS or system. Any ideas what might be wrong.

May be a HDD error or possibly a virus.

Dell poweredge keeps going to utility screen when booted up

Well, that server went end of life about 6+ years ago so it's very possible that the server is done. Check your keyboard to make sure the F keys aren't stuck. Is there a disc in the CDROM? I don't think that model has the option to default to the utility screen but check out the BIOS if you can get in there.

Can windows xp operating system be installed on poweredge 1650 server

Yes it can however XP isn't a network operating system. Your server would be deprived of many features and options that make a server a server. I've heard of people putting XP on their servers, and if all you are doing is using the Poweredge 1650 as a file server then fine. But you don't need a server for that, could have used a desktop with XP as a file server.

Hi my dimension 3100, just after the boot the screen stay on the progression bar and no more! I just can read Dell DV051 Series Bios Revision A03 and in the lower corner the logo Intel Inside pentium...

are you saying you are stuck on the screen that says dell on it as soon as it turns on, and that f2 to enter bios does not work? if so, the issue can be related to a bad hard drive or bad motherboard. i have come across this issue alot, normally on desktops, and those are the 2 fixes that are usually the problem.

After an unexpected computer crash my Dell Studio XPS 1340 has been stuck at start-up. Currently when I start up the computer it gets stuck on the loading bar in the Dell Splash Screen or the BIOS Screen...

Hey,

Have you tried the "Power Flee". Sometimes this small step works where we don't expect it to be..

>Press and hold the "power button" for 5-10 seconds.

>Remove all cables, peripheral devices(If connected)

>Take out the laptop battery and wait for couple of minutes.

>Insert the battery again and try to boot.

If it passes through the dell logo screen now and still stuck somewhere(BLACK / BLANK screen), then we can try "advanced boot options", Windows vista / 7 WINRE options(startup repair, system restore, various commands from "command prompt", and complete factory restore).

If its still stuck on that same dell loading screen, consult your manufacturer for hardware diagnostics.

Dell poweredge 1650 is beeping with blue flashing light

Flashing blue light is harmless - it simply means the Identify button has been pushed. There is a small button with a white, cursive 'i' on the front and back of the server - pressing this will make the light flash blue (or make it stop).

Go to Dell's support site and view the manual for the 1650 for an explanation of the beep code - identify the pattern of the beep.

If you are still able to get to Windows, use OpenManage Server Administrator to check the Hardware logs and RAID array.

Dell poweredge 1650 and norton ghost

okay, hate to answer my own question. Where I got confused was with the protocol.ini file that is used in Norton Ghost on a boot disk to load the network information, including the network protocol to be used (netbeui in this case) and what network card was to be used. Thus the last part of the protocol.ini file is where I needed to add the missing information. I needed to add the slot = required value to identify what one of two network cards in the dell PowerEdge 1650 was to be used to connect to the ghost server (in this case, the two cards were idenified by a number such as 0x0110 and 0x0120). The strange thing is that I also noticed that there is a third network port on the back of the server, but I am not sure if it is active or not, but nothing came of as of yet. But I am now happy to report that I can connect to the ghost server to image the machine I need to image.

Poweredge 1650 not booting

It is possible the mainboard/motherboard is bad. However, you might want to check the internal fans on the 1650 to make sure they are not clogged or they are not obstructed. That would be the
first thing to check. After that if nothing work, then look to reset the CMOS (you should simply be able to short a jumper for them) or just simply take out the CMOS battery for a minute, then reconnect it.

Can not access bois

It hangs there probably becuase one or more of the drives are dead or are almost there. Check and see the lights on the drives are falshing funny or too long or are yellow. If you find one of them that are that way, pull it out and then reboot.

See if that helps.
