Thank you for the quick response! I have another question though... if I do need to replace the fan, do you know where I might get one or anything like that?

Also, I'd prefer to try and put the new one in myself... do you know of anywhere that has detailed instructions so that I might do this?

You're describing exactly what happened with my laptop! Thank you so, so much for your response!

If the fan was making a bearing noise and has stopped spinning then the fan needs to be replaced.
The fan may have stopped spinning because it is clogged with dust, if so loosen with a still brush and vacuum to remove the dust.
A faulty fan will cause the CPU to overheat and shutdown the computer and will not start up again until it has cooled down. Continue to ignore this it will eventually cause the CPU to fail.

You might be able to get a replacement from Toshiba. Alternately I would remove the fan and take it to an electronic hobby shop or computer shop and purchase one the same size (check the label on the fan, - most likely 5V DC three wires). The only problem would be the plug on the fan, just cut off the connector with sufficient cable length and solder the connector onto the new fan. Put heatshrink tubing around the soldered wires to prevent the wires shorting against each other.

Not sure how to remove the fan on your model Toshiba, if there is a round vent on the bottom of the laptop, then the fah may be behind this panel. If the rectangular vent/s are on the sides or back of the laptop then the fan and heatsink assembly is under the keyboard. Remove the keyboard to gain access to the fan and heatsink. This assembly will be held by spring loaded screws over the CPU. The fan will be screwed to the heatsink. When you reinstall the fan and heatsink assembly don't forget to apply fresh thermal paste to the heatsink before you attach it to the CPU.

I have a previously owned Toshiba A215 S7444 Satellite Laptop, when booting up I get a black screen and it asks for the Phoenix Bios Password. The previous owner does not know the password and it is NOT...

You can either find the CMOS backup battery and take it out for a while to let the memory discharge, or look online to find a program which will crack the Phoenix password (these do exist, I had to use them when I was in business fixing computers).
