Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook
I have an Acer Aspire 5100 and for some reason it's not getting any power. I have a Kensington Universal Adapter and the first sign of the laptop not working was having to mess with the power cord like an old pair of headphones. Then I used the all purpose connector on the adapter and the battery light goes on red for a second then turns green again. It turns on and what not but the thing doesn't boot up! Is it a battery problem? I know some laps dont work w/out the battery plugged in.
Make sure your universal charger is EXACTLY the same voltage as the old charger. I had a dell laptop that someone and had a universal charger on it and the cpu would always run in powersaving mode and the battery wouldn't charge so I bought a dell replacement off of ebay and it fixed it. Just a side not, the battery light would flash red non stop.

The Aspires should have no issue booting without the battery installed. Have you done a static reset? (i.e. hold the power switch for 20/30 seconds without power or battery in) And the voltage range on the Aspire 5100 should be +19v - +20.5v on the inner part of the connector so it might be worth checking that the power adapter is outputing correctly.
If it works without battery, then it can be checked by testing the voltage between pins 1 and 6 on the battery (the ones either end) and should be 7.5v or above if the battery is charging correctly.
Hope that gives you a starting point, if you've done all those things already then appologies and best of luck with it.
