Try and start the computer with a system disk or cd if you have one. It could also be the battery for the BIOS, This is a watch type battery that sits on the mother board. Also varify that you are getting the correct voltage through the adapter with a volt meter, most are 18-19 volts dc, but it is normaly indicated on the side of the adapter. low voltage will cause a problem with booting up. Hope this helps.

Presario v6000 thes screen will not work

If the laptop appear to boot up (ie the hard disk LED flashes) but you cannot see an image on the screen, then you could have a backlight problem.
To determine the actual fault, please follow my instructions which are on this link :-

V6000 won't start back up

If the computer is not even showing the splash screen you have a hardware failure or a corrupted BIOS. The first things to try are reseating the memory and other components (hard drive, optical drive, battery again, etc.). If it still will not start and you are very computer savvy, go over to hp.com and see if your unit is capable of flashing the BIOS from a USB drive. If it is not you are probably going to require a computer repair shop.

COMPAQ Presario v6000 Died during Tstorm

My 6000 also died in a thunder storm with power surges.  Power seems to be coming in to the cord, but the ON/OFF button on the front does not turn the computer on.  Totally black screen, with no response.  Hoping for help too.

My compact presario v6000 wont boot up or the screen wont come on

Read this and then call HP at the number listed in the article. You might qualify for a free repair under a special enhanced warranty program. This is a known issue with your computer.

Compaq Laptop Not booting

This is not a hard drive problem. The reason for the display of the box showing the message is that one or more of your critical system processes got stopped somehow. Your system files may have got corrupted and may be as a result of that your computer is behaving weird. I too had the same experience.
Try reinstalling the Operating System. It sure did work for me.

It actually sounds like you might have a hardware problem. If you're comfortable with opening the computer, remove any recently added hardware. If no hardware was added, then it may be necessary to remove each of the components in the following order and retest the boot process until it functions, and replace the last part removed.

Pressing F8 and/or reading the CDROM that early in the BOOT sequence is not possible, so it's in a hardware check.

Floppy, CDROM, SoundCard, Network Card, <any other cards>, extra RAM, except one or two to be able to boot.

It is also possible that either internally or externally, a cable may be loose. If you are able reseat all the cables, this may make it work. Stuff can come loose and the computer freaks out.

Lastly, if you feel like making sure that component is the problem, start plugging all pieces back in and all may work. This would mean that something was loose.
