I like to use a bleach such as clorox. I would run a strong solution through a full water level wash cycle. It will kill mildew.

To fully get rid of that smell, you need to replace gasket and make sure this time you keep door open to air out.

My wirlpool duet front load washer stinks both when in use and not in use. how do I thoroughly clean and fix.

Is the odor simular to mildew? If so do you leave the washer door ajar after use? If not you should, it helps promote air circulation and helps dry out the inside preventing mold and mildew smells. I would run the washer on sanitary cycle or hot water cycle with bleach and baking soda. Then leave the door ajar from then on.

Smelly washer

The disgusting smell is from using too much detergent, using softener or from using only cold water for washing.

The area of buildup is just above the normal waterline where suds and soiled water splash up and don't get rinsed out. To clean this area:

The added bulk of the laundry will raise the water level to include the "splash area" intermittent pausing to soak is also a good tip in extreme cases.

Smelly clothes

It is because of the front loading door..
It seals shut - so after you do a load and shut it,, midew forms in certain areas..
Run a white load and use bleach..
After wash - (as all washes) leave the door open..
This might have to be repeted a few times - but it WILL go away..
Remeber to leave the door open after every load..

Have a nice day ;o)

Our front load washer stinks like stale water inside. How do we clean it out?

the only way is to run a empty load of warm water w/heavy bleach after running cycle wipe door boot/gasket out with like kitchen cleaner w/bleach making sure you get in between the tub and the front panel on the boot. then you have to ALWAYS leave the door open to dry. TRY THIS AND LET ME KNOW

Front load maytag duet odor

Hello. This condition is usually cause by a build up of organic matter or there is no drain trap on the waste line that the water discharge hose connects to.
First check for slime and gunk in the big rubber gasket on the front of the washer. If there is some it's an indicator that you have a build up of active bacteria. This is real common in warm damp areas. The best thing to do in prop the door open on the washer and let it dry out for a day or so. If the smell goes away then it's just bacteria. Run a full load of hot water without any clothes in it. Put the washer on the largest load with extra water, if you have that setting, and the hottest water setting, hot wash and rinse.
When it is finished open the door and let it dry overnight. You may have to do this once a month or so. also when you are finished washing leave the door to the washer open to keep it dry. Good luck.

IMPORTANT: Read thoroughly. DO NOT add detergent or other laundry products to this cycle.
1. Remove all items from the washer.
2. Open the dispenser drawer and 2/3 cup (160 mL) of liquid chlorine bleach to the bleach compartment. DO NOT use more than 2/3 cup (160mL) of bleach per cycle as this will lead to product damage.
3. Close the washer door and dispenser drawer.
4. Select the Clean Washer cycle or a full wash cotton 104 F wash (40 C). DO NOT use any higher temperature as this will cause unnecessary fumes
5. Press Start and allow cycle to complete.
6. If the bad odour persists, repeat the procedure 1 or 2 more times. This may be necessary if this is the first time you have run this cycle.
7. After the cycle is complete, leave the door open slightly to allow ventilation and drying of the washer interior.
8. Repeat the cleaning procedure monthly.
To maintain the washer freshness:
1. Use only HE High Efficiency detergent.
2. Leave the door open after each cycle to for better ventilation and drying of the washer interior.
3. Use warm / hot water in your machine unless the fabric you are washing requires cold.
4. Use the correct amount of fabric softener.
5. If your laundry room is damp, use a dehumidifier.
6. Clean the door seal of visible residue.

Front load wash smells moldy

A few ideas to try but understand that these will not solve your problem 100%,.. To begin with. make sure you are using HE type detergent and use ONLY a few drops per load..any more than that will just end up damaging the front door hinge hardware and you will have to replace that... As for the mold problem.. that has plagued this type of washer for a while.. to my knowledge.. there is no known cure but you can buy Afresh tablets from ( home depot carries them) .. and run them thru a wash cycle about once a month ( more if necessary) .. they do seem to help a little,...I too have the same washer and have been most disappointed by the degree of problems it has had.. Also.. keeping the door open and wiping the gray gasket ( including the area that where water exits the washer..) may help a little too,...
Hope that helps...

We had the same problem with our front loader. (after only a year) We ran a load on "sanitary" setting with bleach. After that we leave the door open after EVERY load. That has fixed our problem
