i cant get my router connected to my modem to provide internet access. the connection dies as soon as i relay it through the router, any idea?

- no i connected the router to see if i would get a popup with directions to follow... unfortunately i did not. and then i unplugged it and tried finding help online, to no avail, now i am asking on forums. :|

Please provide brand and model number of your router so that it can be more specific. Routers' are not plug-detect-configure and play. Some needed to install help configuration software first to configure it. Some are configure using direct approach.

What brand and model is it? are you plugging the internet cable from the modem to the internet port on the router? was the router working previously? is it new or used?

Did you first configure your router using router and computer to communicate first without the modem connected? And can log into its web based utility page?

hi

possibly happen due to physical connection.please check the cable and do the traceroute to verify where it is dead.

bear mind also, sometime it could be hardware problem.
