Similar problem - several keypad letters have become corrupt

Several keys give numbers instead of the correct letters. Only about 10 keys are corrupt.
Any ideas?

Do check regional language settings? Change setting to US language or what country you are in. Or your keyboard is at fault.

I am trying to key text beginning with non-sequential letters/numbers. I cannot make Word quit changing what I key to sequential letters.

I am unsure which version of office you are using. This is a function of auto-correct. You may need to turn it off to stop this behavior, and turn it back on, if you need it to help you compose documents.
( My directions will be using Word 2007, which is what I have installed on my system.)
You need to open the Word Options panel. and go to Proofing.
GO into this location several times in a row, so that you can remember it better, and return to re-enable auto-correct. Uncheck the boxes needed to turn off this behavior.

Some keys register different characters. For example the O registers the number 6 when it is typed.

This should be a simple fix, look at your keyboard, you should have a function key and if you look at the number pads above the top row of letters there should be either a numerical symbol or a key pad, your keyb board is simply using several keys as an extended numerical keypad. If you look closely at the letters there are small numbers on them. To fix hold down function key and pressing the keypad button. You can also try pressing the number lock.

Why keyboard o number press 6?

The number lock has been selected, there is a LED light that is on to indicate the number lock has been selected. You will also find several keys when press will give numbers instead of letters.
Look at the keys above the function keys for the number lock key. some laptop keyboards use the Fn key plus the SCRLk key.

Keys are not working correctly on key pad

It may be that you have NumLock on - these function represents a KeyPad on the Letter Keys - usually the U,I,O,P,[,J,K,L,;,M kEYS are replaced with numbers - to switch on/off you should have a key with Number Lock on it possibly abbreviated to NumLck or NumLK etc - activate that Key - may need to use in combination with the FN key as well to toggle the Number Lock on and off - also often a light appears to show its ON

I cant undo the fn key on the mini note

You should be able to turn off the built in numeric keypad by pressing the fn key and the num lk simultaneously. The num lk is directly above the +/= key. If after doing this you still find you only momentarily turn off the numeric keyboard then there is another underlying issue. At that point you should take your unit to your area HP repair center.

Simply change my keyboard from typing numbers instead of letters..I.e. I'm trying to type yonkers and it gives me y6...I know it is a simple F6 or F2 function but I forget. Its been a while since I u

You need to press the NUM Lock key.
The NUM lock key is usually the same key as the ScrLk key but to select the NUM lock you need to press and hold down the Shift key and then press the NumLk/ScrLk key. A LED light will light up to indicate the number keypad is on.

7290 with keyboard locked, used 9/10 goes, one go left of password

The easiest error is having the number, alt or caps lock on.

To check if this is the case, you will have an icon in the upper right hand of the screen.
