click on drivers for scanners and pick the model you want them for..
if you are in canada make sure that you click on drivers available in canada..

1. Uninstall all the drivers
2. Power cycle your computer
3. Re-install all the drivers
4. Finally re-connect the scanner

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Canon supports this scanner under Vista. Check if the Windows generic TWAIN scanner driver will work. The Canon software won't work. If the generic driver can be installed, then you should be able to acquire scans in Paint (File > Import from Scanner or Camera), Windows Fax and Scan (New Scan) (some versions of Vista) or Windows Photo Gallery (IIRC it works like Paint).

(Canon wants you to upgrade. I have a different scanner that isn't officially supported past XP and the generic driver works fine. Unfortunately, you can't just use the XP driver in the compatibility mode due to the lack of signed drivers that are required in the 64-bit OS)

the only successful method I found for using CanoScan D1250U2F in 64 bit Windows 7 (I guess the same would be for 64 bit Vista) is to use Windows XP Mode in Virtual PC (attach the scanner as USB device and that's it - works perfectly)

I had a problem with Windows 7 detecting the device as CanoScan (needed for Windows XP Mode to detect is as USB device and allow attach) - the solution was to unplug the scanner, plug it in and CANCEL Windows 7 hardware detection process before it finishes - this leaves it as "CanoScan" device (auto-detect will leave it as "Unrecognized device" and with that unusable/un-attachable in Windows XP Mode)

latest versions of Windows XP Mode will make your hard drives accessible as network locations (no need for external media)

Presuming Vista OS Canoscan toolbox is the utility. Found in Canon support I might add.

You may use Hamrick VueScan Pro, it installs a driver that makes 1220 to work. Or, if the version of Windows 7 you use support XP Mode, install it.

It's still a good scanner, and mine is working in 7 x64 using XP Mode!

Yes ... provided it is configured with the necessary Vista driver(s).

This particular model appears to have been first sold before the release of Windows Vista, therefore yours may, or may not, have the Vista drivers installed.

If NOT:

1. Go to the Canon website.
2. Select "Windows Vista" in the drop-down menu.
3. Download the latest Vista compatible driver package(s) and/or documentation.
4. Install following installation instructions.

I'm not sure if this will work on the lide 20. I have an lide 35, and there are no 64 bit drivers for it. I downloaded and installed the drivers for the lide 60, told the computer to manually find the lide 60 drivers for my scanner, and installed the canoscan toolbox for vista 64 bit. Works like a champ.

Go to this link. Select your OS (Windows only, there are no drivers available here for Mac OS), and download the standard driver (not the WIA driver) and the CanoScan Toolbox listed under Software. Follow the instructions to install on your computer.
