Question about Garden
Probably a bent "drag link". See your owner's manual about checking for damage adjusting the steering. For the LTX 1045, it is "Maintenance Section 6", Page 22. If it is bent, repair or replace as mowerman1857 indicated.
You should also lubricate at the two grease fittings (per side) shown on Page 20 -Lubrication - "with a #2 weight Multi-purpose grease". It may have been skipped at the factory or may have been stored at high temperature before you got it, and dried out. (Text in quotes are from the manual)

Sounds like a bent or broken tie rod. If it is broken, it should be under warranty, if it is bent, try straightening it out and see if it lasts.
