I don't have another monitor to test it with. I did change the cable that connects from the back of the monitor to the mains to another one and it was doing the same thing.

It goes from standby light to the green light to off and starts the whole process again. Today it took absolutely ages. You see bit of the screen before it goes off and I happen to click the shut down option. When it restarted it was fine.

first, try another monitor, that way you will know if it's the computer or the monitor.

Old CCFL lamp or lamps (backlight), or damaged insulation of high-voltage wires from inverter to lamps. Unplug flat cable coming from display to processor board to observe better the flickering. Next, using 27pf 3kV capacitor as substitution of single lamp - unplug lamps one by one, solder that capacitor to the connector pads instead - localize the faulty lamp. You may keep that capacitor there permanently or replace faulty lamps. You can by them on ebay for instance.

Screen making quick flashes

This could be a LCD screen problem or a video card problem.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop, power up the monitor first then boot up your laptop. The video will automatically switch to the external monitor, then go to the Internet and see if this flicker occurs on the external monitor.
If it still flickers then the video card has a problem.
If it does not flicker the the LCD screen maybe faulty.
Get back to me with the results of these test and I can advise the nexr course of action.

Display starts out OK, but after a few minutes it begins to flicker in the upper corners, and the turns on and off a few times before staying black?! Everything else seems to function OK.... BIOS issue???...

please check the monitor or LCD that you have. because the computer will not flicker if there is a problem on the display. isolate it. use other monitor or LCD then check if it flickers again.

LCD TV flickers non-stop

More likely to be bad LCD controller, see sample here: notes: I removed the cover from the board.
Parts: there are more than one version of the board,

Be careful when remove the back cover! the switch assembly is attached to the back panel, do not yank too kard to remove the back.

LG L1900E flickering after cold start

This is probably due to a bad solder joint somewhere. Bad solder joints can effect a unit in the reverse also. IE works at first and then dies after it gets warm. Think about how metal expands when it is heated. And contracts as it gets cold. If there is a hairline fracture on one or more component joints, this would cause it to not have such a great or solid connection when it is cool, or contracted. As it gets warmer, the solder expands therefore filling the void and giving it a good connection.

Regardless, it will likely only get worse over time. If you're handy with a soldering iron, pop it open and reflow all the joints. Especially the ones on the transformers and copper coils. Best to hit them all, excluding the tiny surface mount devices.

Screen does not start (switch on)

Sounds like a mode issue. Make sure you have the pc set to a compatible mode for the monitor. You may also want to double check the vga cable is firmly set in the monitor and pc.
