When the pc starts up, the lcd switches on and off and flickers. Why is it doing this?

- I don't have another monitor to test it with. I did change the cable that connects from the back of the monitor to the mains to another one and it was doing the same thing.
It goes from standby light to the green light to off and starts the whole process again. Today it took absolutely ages. You see bit of the screen before it goes off and I happen to click the shut down option. When it restarted it was fine.
Old CCFL lamp or lamps (backlight), or damaged insulation of high-voltage wires from inverter to lamps. Unplug flat cable coming from display to processor board to observe better the flickering. Next, using 27pf 3kV capacitor as substitution of single lamp - unplug lamps one by one, solder that capacitor to the connector pads instead - localize the faulty lamp. You may keep that capacitor there permanently or replace faulty lamps. You can by them on ebay for instance.
