Question about Dryers

1 Answer

I have a maytag dryer model MD-31(Atlantis) that had a 4 prong plug when I purchased it. Without realizing, I moved into an apartment with a 3 pronged outlet. I picked up an adapter that I thought would change 4-prong to 3-prong, but when I opened the back there are 4 colored wires, red with post, green AND white with one post and yellow with post. Since the adapter has no front or back & no colors I'm not sure how to fit the 3 pronged adapter on.

Return it...and get a 3 prong dryer cord.

Place the middle conductor on the middle of the terminal block and the two outside conductors on the two outside terminals of the block. It makes no difference which way just so they are not on the middle terminal. Make sure they are tight but don't over-tighten to break the terminal block. The cord will probably cost less than the "adapter" did.

Good Luck

Need to know the correct 3 prong power supply cord to use for a Maytag Atlantis dryer.

Hi fredmcmur227...

There are many different pattern plugs and recepticals.
It is impossible to tell you which power cord to buy.
What you will need to do is find out what the receptical for the dryer looks like and match the receptical with the power plug your going to purchase.
I will also include a link to show you how to hook up a 3 prong wire power plug.
Please take time to rate me

I have a 3 prong cord, the outlet is 4, colors in back dont match

Hi,
Hook the green directly to the metal of the machine anywhere you can, like under a screw that holds something.
Hook the white to the white.
Then the red and black can go on the other two, it does not natter which one is on what they are interchangable. To make it easy, go black on black and red on blue.
Plug it in and
Then you are good to go!!

The dryer has a four prong male plug and the outlet is a three prong female - which do I change? the dryer cord is the easiest, but how do I connect the leads?

4 PRONG PLUG WIRING: 2 HOTS(RED&BLACK) 1 NEUTRAL(WHITE) 1 GROUND(GREEN). 3 PRONG PLUG WIRING: 2 HOTS&1 NEUTRAL. YOU MUST USE 2 HOTS & 1 NEUTRAL ON A 3 WIRE PLUG. THE GROUND WIRE(GREEN) WHICH IS HOOKED TO FRAME OF THE DRYER IS NOT USED ON OLDER 3 WIRE PLUGS. IT IS AN ADDITIONAL SAFTEY GROUND ON NEWER MODEL 4 WIRE PLUGS.

Moved dryer, hooked up wrong, not working now after re-hooked up

have you check outlet with a voltmeter or even checked breaker? Is your new rect' a 3 or 4 prong outlet? If you hooked up red's to black and black to reds it still should have worked. The 220 volt heating element is between the red's and blacks the 110 circuits would be between a red or black to white wire.
