Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Water freezing up at the bottom of the freezer and periodically leaking out the bottom. Have already taken off the back panel and couldn't really get a chance to see if the drain is clogged. But I poured some water and it did not drain. I had to vacuum the water out. Not sure if it just drains slowly or blocked. But no way to get any further with the drain. Could it be another problem?

It might be that your water connection is leaking, depending on what unit it is.

Take all food out of the freezer and remove shelves. There will be a cover on the back of the freezer compartment covering a fan and an aluminum evaporator coil. There should be a little ledge or lip under those components, there is a hole on that ledge where water will drain down through a tube to a little pan under your refrigerator. The tubing is clogged and there is probably ice blocking the hole, you will need to remove the ice with a hairdryer or hot water and dump very hot water down the hole until the clog breaks free,

Water freezes in bottom of freezer and then leaks out onto floor

I am pretty sure you are having a defrost drain blockage problem. Most defrost every eight hours and over a period of time the drain line that comes down from freezer into a cup like object top middle and back of the fresh food section. If blocked by gunk or ice you will see trails of liquid leaking down the rear wall of fresh food compartment until it reaches the crisper drawers. This is not always the same with every model as you may see frozen ice flowing down ther rear wall of freezers on side by sides. Here is an example Click here=> Whirlpool Leak Photo taken by TechnicianBrian He has been around a good bit and deserves credit for his contributions. Here is another way to make this look more si mple in clip below. TechnicianBrian.com And in this photo are several parts listed in photo group #1 were it is most likely running down the wall=> MagicChef CTB1921AR fresh food section. If you still have questions please ask and rate me if I was able to explain this well enough. Every refrigerator is made different so these are examples only. The key is to find if ice or just gunk has blocked you defrost drain. Unplug and then remove the rear panel in back of freezer. We need to see if the water is overflowing the condensate drain tray or if the blockage is in the turn the drain leads down back of your refrigerator. Much more on this page=> Leaking Refrigerators! Leaks water inside from the ports or vents under freezer but in fridge

Your problem more than likely is a plugged defrost line in the freezer...The freezer goes through periodic defrost cyles to keep the coils from freezing up. The water catches in a trough pan in the freezer and flows through a drain hole to the bottom of the fridge where it evaporates. This drain hole perodically freezes up and the water accomulates under the freezer bottom until the water level reaches your vent ports to the fridge section. Open your freezer and on the bottom floor of your freezer you should see two screws near the front on either side. Remove them and then take out the bottom tray....this will expose the drain hole near the rear of the freezer compartment. You will more than likely have to remove ice under the tray in order to see the drain hole. Remove the lower back panel on the back of the refrigerator and you should be able to see the drain line coming from the freezer. Unplug the refrigerator before you begin work. It will take a little while for the drain line to thaw to allow liquid to flow to the bottom. I find a hair dryer pretty handy in speeding up the process. To verify you have unplugged the drain line you should be able to pour hot water in the drain hole in the freezer and see it come out at the rear of the fridge in tube line just above a little catch pan

Ice maker leaking

Are you sure it's the ice maker that's leaking? We have this model & ours accumulates a HUGE iceberg in the bottom of the freezer, but the water seems to be coming out of the back, at the bottom of the back panel, where the vents are.

Water is leaking under the refrigerator. This is

If everything else on the refrigerator seems fine (freezing and refrigerating are fine), then you probably have a problem with the drain hose under the evaporator coil. On frost free freezers, there is a heater that comes on periodically to melt off all the frost on the evaporator coil, and that defrosted frost (water) goes out a drain hose and collects in a pan at the back of the unit where it can evaporate.

Either the drain is clogged with ice inside the freezer, (in which case you might notice ice building up on the bottom of the freezer, or perhaps water collecting on the bottom of the refrigerator if your freezer is on top) OR there is something wrong with the pan at the back of the refrigerator, like a crack, or it somehow got tilted so that the water pours out. It is located behind the panel on the back.

Or perhaps, and this would really ****, the water line that supplies your ice maker is leaking, if you have one. If you do have one, I would recommend turning the water line to the fridge off before pulling the fridge out.

Water pools at bottom of freezer, freezes and water leaks out

Hello, this sounds like you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove bottom shelf from fridge and remove the styrofoam..you may see ice build up...melt ice with hair dryer/heat gun...you will see a pan below evaporator...melt ice in pan...dry water up in pan with paper towel...now you should see a hole in pan that leads to drain tube...pour some hot water in pan..wait a couple minutes..mop up water and repeat this step 2-3 times....once you have done this find some flexible curatain wire or electrical wire..poke down the hole until you see the water drain..now it is clear..put back panel back and you are good to go. The reason you see water in the Freezer is because the water has been leaking into the freezer instead of running into the drain hole...Please feel free to comment again if you need any further assistance. Water comes out freezer door

Defrost that drain with a hair dryer and remove the debris . That should solve the problem . The red you see ( this is normal ) , is the defrost heater , thawing out the frost on the coils . The defrost water HAS to go out the drain or it will freeze the opening and the defrost water will flow out thru the bottom of the freezer door .

Freezer leaks water even after water supply turned off

Remove the food from the lower portion of the freezer and remove the 2 screws which hold the rear freezer panel on . Remove the panel and use a hair dryer to defrost the ice built up over the drain . Once you see the black drain hole , concentrate on defrosting the hole . Once defrosted , the ice water will drain into the hole . I would use a small hose inserted into the drain and blow thru , to remove any debris built up inside the drain . Reinstall the panel and food .

Drain hole is clogged behind the panel that covers the coils. I found a peice of solder blocking mine. Water was freezing on the bottom of the freezer and leaking out to the floor.

I replaced my "entire" ice cube maker (tube, hoses, water pump, ice maker) and it still pooled water at the bottom. I removed the back panel in the freezer and noticed the ciols go through a defrost cycle and water forms in tray under coils. I removed the lower panel on rear of fridge -and found a drain hose near the water solenoid/pump. I blew compressed air into the hose and hopefully unblocked it so it can drain into the pan not the freezer.
