Unfortunately if one colour is out, then you cant print. These cartridges contain a chip and once depleted will not print until a new cartridges is installed

Theblack print cartridge is empty or missing. The black-print-cartridgelight is blinking, and then printer stops printing. An error 40208 iswritten to the event log. The printer cannot detect the print cartridgecorrectly. Action

1. Reinsert or replace the print cartridge.
2. If the print-cartridge light is still blinking but the Attention light is not on, turn the printer off, and then back on.
3. If the problem continues, contact HP Customer Care at http://www.hp.com/support/clj2550 or see the flyer that came in the printer box for other contact information.
