Pfaff 1471 will not run. Thanks to gherna1 for his detailed instructions we were able to solve presser foot lift problem. Unfortunately, now the sewing machine will not run at all. I was able to sew on it for an hour or two before it ''died''. Sometimes it would not begin to stitch until I turned the handwheel and pressed on the foot pedal at the same time. Eventually, it just began to get slower and slower and finally just quit. My husband thinks it might need a replacement motor or new brushes. Does anyone have any idea if this is possible or should I just write the machine off?? I am still searching for a REPAIR Manual to purchase. lindafroggie

HI I have a 1471 it may be your foot peddle I had the same problem. I thought it might be the brushes but it was the contacts in the foot peddle if you know someone else with a Phaff try their foot peddle or take it in and ask if they will check the peddle.

Have the same problem. Did you ever find a solution

I too have the same problem. I too think it may be the motor because I have actually taken it apart only to find nothing visibly wrong with it. Will it be too costly to repair the motor?

PFAFF creative 1471-sewing foot?

It's not the foot, it is the 'Feed Dogs', the teeth in the base that pull the material UNDER the foot. The most likely reason is that you have lowered them too much, or set it to 'embroidery'.

I have a pfaff hobbylock 796.

Has any little kids been around lately? Have they had access to your sewing area and machine? (thinking perhaps the pressure foot tension has been tightened down) If it has been tightened, losen it a couple turns, see if that helps (remember, left to loosen, right to tighten)

When is the last time you oiled this machine? Typically sergers require a clean and oil each time you go to use them. Locate the bar that correlates to the presser foot add a drop of oil to the bar and let it seep in. After a few minutes try lifting the presser foot.

Also does the presser foot lever move at all?

My pfaff 1471 sewing machine keeps breaking the needle

Machine breaks needles
1.make sure you are using the right needle for your type of sewing machine.
. There are cases where the machine will only use ones specified in the owners manual.
2.the presser foot may not be installed properly
3.use the correct needle for the type of fabric you are working with. To fine of needle on heavy fabric or to course a needle on silk or jersey can damage fabric.
4.let the feed dogs guide the fabric & the feed dogs will work with the presser foot .
5.the needle is not all the way in -push all the way up against the stop
6. Check top thread tension

I have a pfaff creative 1471 and it seems like the pressure foot, when raised, then lowered, doesn't have the proper down pressure. It sticks in the up position, then when I pull it down, it sorta snaps...

Can't believe no one answered you. I would highly suggest you take it in. From my searching around learning about the Pfaff 1471 I was just given. I found it is a very good machine and well worth spending well up to 500 to keep it in good shape. I just had to cut back on the extra I pay on my car payment just to pay the 150.00 tune up on her (ouch). But she runs like a dream now. The machine is so good I didn't even notice she needed it. What you seem to be saying wrong seem to be the most common thing I have read goes wrong with the 1471. I get there is a spring that gets gummed up. It should be replaced/cleaned and regressed by a pro. If its as common as it sounds shouldn't cost more than what I paid.

Powers up, then "all" lights are on and does nothing.

The machine that only lights up has a circuit board problem and should be seen by a technician. The machine that has a tension problem can probably be repaired by removing a piece of thread which is inside the tension discs.First do a tension test and then follow these instructions.
Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} (To do this test, adjust your tension setting to normal or medium or 5 or something in the middle. Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through the tension. It should pull easily!! Lower the presser foot and pull the thread. It should pull noticeably harder.)
If it doesn’t work this way then you probably have a piece of thread or lint stuck inside the tension discs. To remove it, turn the tension to 0 zero and raise the presser foot.Using a small screwdriver, open the space between the discs and spray with canned or compressed air. The stuff should come out. Do the tension test again to make sure you got everything and then try sewing again.

Presser foot 7 lever on Pfaff 1471

You may not be using the correct presser foot for your machine.

Sewing Machine Feet

You may be using a low shank when your machine needs a high shank.
