Question about Gateway CX2618 Notebook

Will not power up

My cx2618 is over 3 years old. over the last year, i would have a problem that computer would not turn on from either battery or ac power supply. power indicator light would not come on. if i let it set with ac power connected, it would take several hours and all of a sudden power light would come on and it would power up and run like nothing was wrong. it would run for many days turning it on and off several times a day, then it would happen again. no pattern to problem. i wanted to send it to gateway, but when i was ready to ship it started working, and there was no sign of problem. now it has been three days and will not power up.

I think your laptop is having some loss contact inside the Motherboard in between power supply or battery.
Usually just like this and later on it power up again normally.
My advice is you send it to gateway to see your laptop for working it properly. I do it's only a little adjustment on your laptop to them.
Good luck!

My sons Dell Vostro 1500 has a problem with the AC adaptor. It will run the laptop but wont charge the battery. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks,David

If it will run off the AC Adapter but won't charge the battery then odds are it is the battery that won't take the charge and not the AC Adapter's inability to charge anything.

Google "dell vostro1500 battery" and change to shopping. You will see many available knock off battery's starting at 20 dollars.

Although AC Adapters go out too. They last a lot longer than batteries do. Today's batteries just don't last. I would say average life span is a year to a year and a half.

Battery not charging? Help please.

How old is the battery? Usually, batteries only have 1 yr of life. It will start degrading when it is near its 1st year. You should consider that as well. You can try to take the battery out of the laptop and drain its power. Meaning, you would have to leave the computer without the battery and the ac adapter for at least 2 minutes. You can also press the power button while doing so to ensure its completely out of power. Next, plug in the AC adapter and turn your computer on without the battery (yes without the battery. This would check if your AC adapter is doing fine as well. If it does not turn on, you are having troubles with the AC adapter as well). After turning it on, allow windows to load and have the computer detect that it doesnt have a battery. You would see the icon that the battery is not connected. Next, turn your computer off and connect the battery. Unplug the AC adapter and turn the computer on. Wait until windows loads and then connect the AC adapter and see if you will still get the same message. If you would still be prompted that the battery is not charging, the last option before getting a new battery is to reinstall the Operating system. Sometimes, the problem that you are having is also a result of a failing power driver in the Operating system.

The easiest way to check is to put a known good working battery of the same model into your computer to check if its really the battery that you are having problems. If other batteries work, you should replace the battery that you have immediately. If it doesnt, its the laptops charging port that is having problems. If the laptop is still under warranty, you can have it brought to the service depot for repairs by calling DELL. but try doing the solutions that I have mentioned before doing so.

Hope this helps.

My Toshiba Satellite AS205-5000, will not turn on nor does the fan come on. When the low battery sign came on, I plugged in the AC adapter to charge it, and it shut down and wasn't charging. After it shut...

You Need To Replace the DC Jack..this involves desoldering the old/faulty dc jack from the motherboard, then cleaning the board, then soldering a new dc jack in place of the old...

But First, Test Your AC Adapter - use a multimeter (available at any home improvement store for under $7)...

Charging problem

If your computer runs correctly on AC power (without the battery), the power adapter is fine. So the problem may rest with your battery. If you have been using the same battery for 3-4 years, I suspect that it may not be holding the charge (end of life)
Try charging you battery and run the computer on battery alone and see how long it lasts.

Hope it helps

Low Battery life on Acer Aspire

I would first make sure that the AC is working. If the computer works on AC then it should be fine. I have had several batteries that lasted only a year. If you leave it plugged in all the time, that will do it. It is best to charge it and then use it on battery several times a week. Hope this helps some :>)

CP685AVR/BF685 Power Contro.

It is likely the battery. These batteries are designed to last 3-6 years in a UPS. The good news is that if it is the battery, it is completely user replaceable and you'll have a Cyber Power unit that works just like new with a new battery. What may have happened is that the battery was weak, and you may have had a slight dip in the AC power. This caused the Cyberpower unit to switch over to the weak battery which couldn't handle the load. The unit then turned off. When you press the "ON" button, the unit will go through a self-test that checks all of the components and the unit will not turn on and be functional unless all of the components come back with a PASS, including the battery. If possible, test the battery with a voltmeter, it should read around 13.5, but not lower than 11.5v DC. However, with the unit over 3 years old, it almost certainly the battery. Here's a link to a replacement battery for the CP685AVR:

Hope this helps.
