Question about Toshiba Satellite M115-S1061 Notebook

1 Answer

No display - no post beeps

Similiar problem started once I opened up the case for something and I've worked on laptops for years but I'm thinking that perhaps there's a switch or something that is on the motherboard that isn't being depressed after I put the case back together. I noticed many "safety switches" in the design on this laptop and some laptops don't work properly when they are opened up.... Did you ever find a solution to this issue with your Toshiba Satellite M115?

Blank screen and continuous beeps when computor starts up

Count the beeps, they tell the technician what is going on. Normally that is a pattern to the beeps such as (3 long beeps, 1 long beep followed by two short beeps).

Does the laptop post anything on the screen when you hit the power button or does it immediately start beeping?

Just off the top of my head I would think you've got a memory issue. It could be a Video Card issue too.

What brand and model is your laptop?

Lets, try the memory tests just in case:

Remove the Power Cord, Open the Case and remove one of thememory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x onit with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the nextmemory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set itaside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If itboots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and putit into the open memory chip slot and try booting.

I can see the POWER LED light when I plugin laptop on power as well battery. But when I press the power button to start laptop, it doesn't boot. I can not see and LED lightning up when laptop is on...

Try finding an external monitor and hooking it up via the VGA port on the side of the computer. Once it's hooked up, hold down the function (Fn) key and find and press the key for external monitors (usually it's F4 or F6). It will probably look like two little squares with an arrow between them. Press that button a few times (waiting about 5 seconds between presses, and continuing to hold the Fn key) to see if anything shows up on the monitor. If so, then it's probably something to do with your backlight.

Sometimes what happens is your LCD backlight/backlight inverter stop working. These can be purchased and replaced, but it's not a very easy procedure. If you see something on the monitor let me know and I can try to help you with the disassembly process/ordering process.

If this doesn't solve the problem, then I would suggest that there was an issue with your motherboard, in which case you would usually hear some beeps on start-up. The beep codes will help you diagnose what's wrong. If you comment back with the beep codes (if this is the case, that is), I can look them up for you and see what you've got going on.

Hope I helped!

One long beep and 2 short beeps

Depending upon your BIOS manufacturer, generally this POST error code means either a video card problem or a motherboard problem. If the RAM is OK then you have a motherboard problem, and this may not be cost effective to fix. Consider putting your money towards a new laptop, remove the hard disk and put it into an external USB adapter case and use it as an USB hard drive for backup etc.

1, make sure that your laptop got power. how to do it ? it is easy, the power led (close to headphone jack) is on. and power button led should be on. Just in case you can't power on, please check ac adapter and power port on your laptop.

2. i assume you have power. now power it on and press f2 to got to bios. press f2 many times, it should make a beeps when you press it many times. once you get a beeps, press fn+right arrow to adjust the brightness of lcd. did you see something ? what i am looking is dark display.

If your display is dark, open the power cover (power cover is cover where you see power button), you need to remove 2 screws on that cover, on lcd hinges. After you remove power cover, you can see cable close to power button, remove it and check the display again, is it bright or still dark, if it is still dark it could be inverter or lcd.

if your power is on and you press f2 many times, it doesn't make beeps sound. it is called no post. Reseat memory and if this still not working, your motherboard is bad. if you have 2 memory installed, try 1 by 1. sometime the memory slot is bad, sometime memory is bad.

i hope this troubleshoot will help you to find out whats wrong with your laptop.
good luck

Dell Inspiron 2650 Boot problem

Hey, Ive had a few laptops with similiar problems. If there are no beeps then most likely there is a problem in the motherboard.

You could try removeing extra hardware like the cd/dvd drive and try to start up again but most likely the motherboard would need to be replaced.

In most cases the price comes near the price of a new laptop so it might be better to buy a new one.

You can remove your harddrive and buy a converter to connect it into your desktop pc or to your replacement laptop. to save your files.

If you need more asistance, let me know.
Good luck!
