White screen that reads ERROR after failed recovery

After trying to push the manual reset button under my ASUS G1Sn labtop and the F9 option, my computer is unable to complete the recovery wizard. I am asked to decide whether to recover these optional partitions: first partition only, entire HD, or entire HD with 2 partition. I have tried all three options with no success. I have also tried inserting the recovery CD's and ended up with no success. About 8% through any of these processes a white screen appears with big red letters that read: ERROR.

I can tell you how to fix this but it would require a $80 investment on your part. There is an excellent program called Spinrite 8.0 . It comes from Gibson research company. It comes with FreeDos installed for just these kind of problems. go to your BIOS and set it to load from cd. insert the disk and reboot. Use option 5 to repair your HDD. Now this can take a few hours or a few days depending on how damaged your HDD is. But I have fixed countless pc's and laptops with the same problem. if you don't want to make the investment use a torrent site and DL it for free (although this does violate copyrite) it will save you the $80.

How do I wipe my hard drive clean and restore it to the way it was when I purchased it

If you have the original disc drive installed (and the original OS), try pressing F9 repeatedly after turning on the computer. (Sometimes, it can be hard to get the timing right - the button press needs to be seen after the POST and before Windows loads. If you see Windows starting to load, let it finish loading and then shut down the computer and try again.)

This will access the recovery partition and reformat the computer and restore the machine to the factory state. Follow the on-screen directions and make sure that you have saved your personal data elsewhere.

However, if your computer has the ASUS boot booster, you will need to disable this feature to access the recovery program. Try pressing F2 or Delete (depending on your machine) to enter the BIOS with the same timing as the above use of F9. Then find the option to Disable the boot booster. Then press the F9 key on another start up cycle. My ASUS computer doesn't have this feature so I'm not sure where it may be in the BIOS (if on your computer).

Asus offers a WinPE wipe and recovery option for some of their computers that can be put on a USB flash drive. http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20091019013723218&board_id=20&model=Eee+PC+1005HA&page=1&SLanguage=en-us has the procedure for one of their other models.

I hope this helps.

Hi Ali.
you could try this or go to the link at the bottom and have a read up of what else you could try.
Push the computer's F9 button until the Recovery System window appears. Choose the option for Windows Setup and select Recovery. You should see a message disclosing that you will lose all your files in the process as the Recovery puts the machine back to its original factory settings.

How can i restore my asus laptop to factory settings. i have 3 recovery geek squad disk.

Just on phone with ASUS rep. We're getting error on boot on a new unit. Told me to remove battery and power line and hold down power button for 30 seconds then plug in power (not batt) and press power then immediately press F9 again and again until a recovery screen that would reinstall from partition on hard drive appeared. Sadly, F9 didn't work for me and its off to service dept with a brand new unit that worked for 2 hours. Not so sure about ASUS. Have Compaq, HP & Toshibas with only one problem Toshiba within first year of purchase.
