Question about KitchenAid KGYS850LT Gas Dryer

1 Answer

Electric Dryer remains running without heat and trips breaker

I have an older Kitchenaide model Electric dryer (model # KEYE660W).The dryer will start, heat, and continue drying for a few minutes. It makes a "click", the heat shuts off, dryer remains running without heat, timer does not move, but the dryer eventually stops. The dryer will not turn back on. I go over to the breaker box to find that the breaker with the black wire has tripped (and hot. as is the black wire itself..yikes!). I can reset the breaker and run the dryer with the same result. Any ideas?

The dryer will not heat up

Instructions
    • 1 Check the cycle selector control to make sure a heating cycle has been selected. The selector should be in an "Off" position when not in use, but it should be turned to a drying cycle when in use. On some models, make sure you are not accidentally running the dryer on the "Air" cycle, which does not use heat.
    • 2 Check the gas supply valve to make sure it is open if your dryer is a gas dryer. If it is not open, just lift the valve open.
    • 3 Look at your house's main breaker box to determine whether a circuit breaker is tripped. The electric dryer runs on 220-240 volts and has a double breaker. If the breaker for the heating element is tripped, the drum may tumble the clothes without heat. Turn the dryer's breakers to off, then back on; test whether the dryer will produce heat.
    • 4 Consult a technician if troubleshooting does not resolve the problem.

Check the breakers, by FULLY turning it off and then back on. What happens, commonly, is the heat side of the 220 breaker trips. If it keeps happening, sometimes you need a new breaker, but DO NOT increase the amp rating of the breaker. Breakers that trip from time to time, eventually start tripping EARLIER.

My Maytag Bravo Steam Dryer runs for about 5 minutes and gets hot and then kicks the breaker in the breaker box. HELP!!

Hello there:
It blows fuses or trips the circuit breaker Electric dryers use 220 volts or two power lines of 110 volts each. Some components in the dryer need only 110 volts; the heating element requires 220 volts. So it's possible for one part of the dryer to be fine and another part to have a short circuit. Short circuits can be caused by the heating element, the main power cord, or any other part of the internal wiring. To decide where the problem lies, unplug the dryer, then:It could be also wired backwardes so make sure to have this checked'

If the circuit breakers or fuses remain on and/or intact when the dryer is unplugged, it's likely the problem is with the dryer. Contact a qualified appliance repair technician. If the circuit breaker trips or the fuse blows when the dryer is unplugged, it's likely the problem is with the house wiring, fuse box, or circuit box.

2year old ge dryer trips breaker when it's turned on, but sometimes will run a complete cycle before it shuts off.

HELLO THERE
Electric dryers require the use of a 220 volt line. The dryer heating elements run off of 220 volts. An excessive draw of electricity, or a short in the wiring can blow a fuse or trip a breaker. This happens to protect sensitive components from damage, and to help prevent fires. Every other dryer component operates off of 110 volts, the timer, motor, etc. Usually when a fuse blows or a circuit trips, it's because there's to much draw on the power line.
It is very possible for one part of your dryer to work fine, and yet another to have a problem, such as a short circuit. A short circuit may be caused by the heating element, internal wiring, or the main power cord.
To troubleshoot this problem, unplug the dryer and check to see if the circuit breaker or fuse remains on when the dryer is unplugged. If they stay on, it's more than likely the problem is somewhere in the dryer.
If your fuse blows, or the circuit breaker trips when the dryer is unplugged, it's likely the problem is with the circuit breaker, fuse box, or house wiring; contact a professional electrician.

OK I hope this is very helpful for you
Best regards Michael

Maytag Atlantis electric dryer Model

Check the following to address this issue.

1. No power to the dryer
Make sure there's power getting to the dryer. Check for tripped circuit breakers or blown fuses. An electric dryer uses two circuit breakers or fuses, and if only one of two is tripped or blown, the dryer might still run but not heat. Sometimes the power cord disconnects or burns at the dryer, if this is the case, the wiring and the terminal block must be repaired or replaced.

2. Heating element
A burned out heating element will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Replace the element if found defective.

3. Thermal fuse
Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

Having to run twice to dry clothes

Question 1) What is the model number of the dryer (look inside the dryer door to find)

Question 2) Is it a gas or electric dryer?

Question 3) About how old is it?

If it is an electric dryer, it is possible that one of the heating/drying elements has burned out and needs to be replaced. As one element will continue to work even if the other one has failed.

Although rare, also check your electric panel and see if one side of the double pole breaker has tripped, as it is sometimes possible for one side of the breaker to trip, if the tie bar link isn't connected to both breakers serving the dryer. This is typically only seen with older models of certain dryers, but wanted to provide that tip just in case, since no model number or age was provided for your dryer.

Please provide some detailed information about the dryer if the above info doesn't get you to the source of the problem.

Hope this was helpful and best regards!

Dryer flips the breaker ran 4 1 year and nothing changed started this 2 days ago any idea about the

If its tripping your breaker either the motor is seized for some reason (easily tested by trying to turn the motor pulley by hand), or something in it is shorted out, most likely thing to short out and trip a house breaker is the heating element.

You can easily test the heating element as the possible cause by taking the 2 wires off the element connector, tape up these wires so it doesn't short out, plug the dryer in and try to run it. If its the heating element shorted out then the dryer will now run without tripping your breaker but of course not heat. If so replace the element.
