Question about Kodak EASYSHARE M340 Digital Camera

Kodak M340 lens extends then retracts immediately

I bought this camera exactly 1 week ago and it started doing this within 4 days. The battery is charged, and I don't think it has been dropped, or exposed to moisture. We bought it on vacation and I stupidly threw away the box (since it wouldn't fit in our luggage) and my boyfriend misplaced the receipt. The camera is only 1 week old and it is just a hunk of plastic. Help!!

Just tried and still no luck. At this point it turns off so fast I cannot even view my photos. I can upload them to my computer when the camera is plugged in and "on" (meaning the screen looks like it is completely off, but my computer still recognizes it) but that is the only function that is working.

Bought this camera for my 15 yr. old daughter to take to Bahamas. She used while on vacation, worked just fine. Now we can't get it to turn on. Lens opens & extends, then closes & shuts off. Have charged battery & tried cleaning lens to make sure there isn't something stuck on lens.

I had the same problem after a day at the beach. What I did was get a can of compressed air (from the computer section) and blow air around the lens as I repeatedly turned it on. It took about five cycles, but I eventually cleared whatever was preventing the lens from fully opening.

Good luck.

Check the setting on the mode knob on the top. Set it to auto. try other settings. It may help. It could be it is set to view pics instead of take pics.

Have you made sure that the batteries are LiIon and fully charged? I had a similar problem with a Kodak Easyshare camera that required the higher voltage LiIon battery pack rather than alkaline AAs which will fit in there but is not exactly right.

M863 lens extends and then immediately retracts

Kodak Easyshare cameras use Li ion batteries, as recommended by the manufacturer, which have higher voltages but not necessarily higher amp hours per battery pack.

When I first bought my 14.1 megapixel camera from Kodak, I tried various batteries, including Alkaline, Ni MH, and they didn't work very long before needing replacement or recharging.

This is because the voltage isn't enough on other batteries.

I do not understand why they make it this way, because it fooled me a lot. I thought that since it had a AA format that it would be alright to use AA batteries of any type in the camera. But, this is not so, in my experience.

Good luck getting your camera to work with new Li Ion Batteries.
Note: if the Li Ion batteries do not work, then there is something wrong internally with your camera.

Contact kodak.com to see if it is economically repairable.

The lens will not retract and it makes a grind noise

I had the opposite problem, my lens would not full extend. It would immediately retract and turn back off. If you take a can of compressed air and blow it out as you cycle it on/off. It should clear whatever is preventing it from closing.

Here is what my problem was and how I fixed it.

Turns on and then immediately turns off

Your fix could be as simple as cleaning the camera's battery contacts, or it could be something more serious and expensive. Before you pay for expensive repairs that you may or may not need, check the Kodak Help Center by clicking on the link below. It uses a simple Q&A format to diagnose problems and propose solutions.

FIRST CHARGE YOUR BATTERY OVERNIGHT AND THEN REMOVE YOUR BATTERY FOR ABOUT 10 MINS PUT BATTERY BACK YOU HAVE TO ADJUST THE DATE AND TIME AFTER DATE EVERYTHING WILL BE OK BUT IF YOU ARE USING 9 OR HIGHER MEGAPIXEL YOUR BATTERY WILL BE DRAIN IN THREE TO FOUR HOURS.

Lens jammed will not retract, canon pc1147 zoom

I have had the same issue were the lens would not retract. took it in for extended warranty work. lens now retracts but takes lousy pictures.

When I purchased this camera family members ran out and bought thiers shortly after I did. One by one the same issue has happend to their v1253's.

I dissmantled one and found that there is a tiny battery on the power board inside of the camera. apparently the tiny battery's life is about 1 1/2 years. This battery is not serviceable as it is welded in place. I am not one hundred percent sure if this is the cause but it makes sense.

It would be nice if kodak would own up to this issue and make good on repairs as they did with my kodak 5500 all-in-one printer and it's crappy print head. Kodak has sent me 4 print heads in the 2 years I have owned it.

I have 5 of the v1253's in my family and every one of the are dead. I would think a $250 product should last longer than 1 1/2 years.
hope this helps.
