Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I am running Mac OS 10.6 (snow leopard). I had a printer installed, but the driver was not 10.6 ready. I removed it, and now I can't install any driver. I down load it, do the normal install of the dmg file and then try to select it in the printer/fax dialogue and when I click to add, it doesn't do anything. How do I restore the printer function in the OS to it's previous state now that I have updated drivers? Jerry

Mac OS has a system restore...kinda. It's called "Archive and Install", where it re installs the OS from the CD/DVD and keeps your apps. It archives the old System and Library folders in case there's anything you want to fish out.

That's more like repairing an install in Windows.

or you can use "Time Machine backup"

Hi Bobby
You will need to get an OS X installation DVD. Try eBay.Don't go for anything lower than 10.4 (Tiger)10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard) should run fine on this machine.Don't bother with 10.7 or 10.8

How To Upgrade Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.* to Snow Leopard 10.6.*

Apple recommends that if you wish to go from 10.4 to 10.6 then you should purchase the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MC581Z-A-Mac-10-6-3/dp/B002I0JKE2">10.6 Box Set</a>.<br /> <br /> <span style="font-weight: bold;">System Requirements to run Snow Leopard:</span><br /> <ul> <li>Mac computer with an Intel processor</li> <li>1GB of memory</li> <li>5GB of available disk space</li> <li>DVD drive for installation</li></ul> <span style="font-weight: bold;">Snow Leopard Installation Instructions:</span><br /> <ol> <li>Just insert the DVD in the optical drive.</li> <li>Restart your Mac while holding down the C key.</li> <li>You will be guided through the installation procedure and be prompted at one point to choose which install option you want.</li> <li>Once the Snow Leopard install is completed the Mac will restart itself.</li> <li>You will probably be asked to register with Apple upon restart.</li> <li>Enjoy Snow Leopard on your Mac!</li></ol> <b>Q: Can I upgrade directly from Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)?</b><br /> <br /> <i>A: Yes. Apple recommends purchasing the Mac Boxed Set for this purpose, which will also update iLife (it is unknown at the time of this writing whether older versions of iLife work with Snow Leopard) and iWork. Also note that while it has been said that the $29 upgrade will work with 10.4, it is not officially supported and may be in violation of the licensing terms.</i><br /> <br /> <b>Q: What happened to the different install options? Can't I do an Archive & Install?</b><br /> <br /> <i>A: Apple has revamped the familiar installation options for Mac OS X. You now have two choices, either a straight upgrade or a clean install. Supposedly if you choose to do a straight upgrade, what actually goes on behind the scenes is what was traditionally known as an Archive & Install.</i><br /> <br /> <b>Q: Is there anything I can do to better prepare myself for the upgrade?</b><br /> <br /> <i>A: Yes. It is advisable to run a Verify/Repair Permissions and Verify/Repair Disk in Disk Utility. You may also want to run the maintenance tasks in <a href="http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/onyx.html">Onyx</a>. And finally, it would be wise to get your applications up to date using a program like <a href="http://metaquark.de/appfresh/">AppFresh</a>.</i>

Trying to install HP photo smart c7180 on a mac and when clicking on the install icon a message window says power pc applications not supported

What version of system are you using on your mac, it is probably snow leopard (10.6) or lion (10.7). In snow leopard you can run powerpc applications but you need to install the part of the system that runs rosetta however in lion you can not run powerpc applications at all. This web page tells you how to instal rosetta on snow leopard http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/ This webpage at hp will also give you some information http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02911238&cc=uk&dlc=en&lc=en&os=219&product=1153754&sw_lang= Hope this helps.

I work with Mac OS (Snow Leopard) and my Mac don't recognize the Agfa Snapscan e25. What should I do? Regards

Snow Leopard has a bunch of drivers built in to control various printers.  If it doesn't recognize the printer, then you will have to go on Agfa's web site to see if they have a printer driver compatible with Snow Leopard.  Keep in mind that Snow Leopard is a new OS and that printer manufacturers will take some time to update their programs and drivers to run on it.  If you don't find a driver then, you got to use a different printer or downgrade your OS to one that will run the printer.

Installed mac osx 10.6.1 and my fuji wont print HELP!

Some manufacturers have not caught up and updated their drivers for snow leopard yet.  You gots ta be patient and wait a couple months or call the manufacturer and ask for a comparable driver that will run off snow leopard. Go back to the previous OS if that was working your printer.  Don't fix it if it ain't broke.

Ricoh directs all users to Apple to review this link (below)to determine if their Ricoh printer meets Snow Leopard compatibility.

If you find that your printer is on the supported list,
then you can download the driver software for Snow Leopard on the Apple Support site.

Here is the Apple Support Link:

If you do not find your printer is supported, then unfortunately this driver download will not work for your printer in Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
