It is probably the thermal fuse that is bad. This has detected a hot condition in the exhaust vent of the dryer and blown. It is an easy and cheap fix to replace it.

When you turn the select knob, you set up the internal cams of the timer. when you press to start or pull to start, you energize the timer motor (buzz) the timer opens the water solenoids. the diaphragm switch senses the water level and moves the timer to the next step. agitate starts for the timed cycle. when its finished the motor kicks in in opposite direction to drain and pump water out.

Cabrio Dryer not turning on when hit start button

If it makes a humming noise, as if it's trying to start, you most likely have a defective motor.

Drum not turning

That is a bad sign. If the buzzing starts when you press the start button and stops when you release its almost safe to say that the motor has a dead short or grounded out and causing that to happen. You can check the start switch by getting a multimeter and with the dryer unplugged take the wires off the switch, place a lead on each pin and press the start with meter set for continuity. If it shows continuity when presed and stops when released your motor is shot and needs to be replaced.
Now if you press the start button and the machine starts to hum and continues to hum its possible that something has gotten caught in the blower wheel and binding the motor up. Depending on the make and model the location and access to it vaaries.
If you can turn the drum and then the dryer starts you have a bad motor. The way the dryer works is when you initially push the start button, electricity is sent to the start winding, or stator, of the motor. This will in turn start the motor turning. From there the stator will drop out of the electrical process and at the same time the run winding, or rotor, will take over and the motor will continie to run. Your stator is damaged, has a burn spot, etc so by you turning the drum, the belt around the drum is moved which is attached to the motor pulley. You basically take the place of the stator. Long story short, you have a bad motor.

Makes a humming noise but doesn't turn

Try this, open the dryer door and hold down the door light switch. Turn on the dryer and press start. When you hear the motor humming, turn the drum clockwise with your hand to see if it will turn. If itruns, you have a bad motor and will need to be replaced. If it doesn't turn, something is jammedinside and you will need to disassemble the unit to find the jam.
Hope this helps.

Check the door switch in the upper right of the door frame. Ours snapped off so the door wasn't contacting the switch anymore.

Dryer won't run

Its time to call the repairman. If its the motor humming its either bad or the dryer is froze up and unable to turn causing the motor to hum. Eventually it will trip the breaker.

Kenmore dryer hums but will not start

If it just hums the motor is probably on it's way out. If it makes a growling noise, it's the motor.
