I have a Toro LX 500 Lawn tractor the pto clutch will not engage, I have 13 volt at the plug for the clutch , so ordered and installed new clutch... Still will not engage checked volts again had 9.3

PTO Clutch will not stay engaged.
There is a very fine one page discussion on evaluating electric clutches at this site:

http://www.messicks.com/Articles/FixingElectricClutch.aspx

My JD tech manual, which covers the entire LA 100 series, agrees with the electrical specifications. It states that the Electric PTO Clutch should show the following:
  • Resistance 3.7 ohms
  • Current Draw 3.25 amps.
It does not give the air gap. It does include a note to check the PTO Clutch Key for damage or if missing. So there is a drive key between the PTO Clutch and the shaft. Additionally, it recommends checking the tightness of the cap screw. That's the screw or bolt that holds the clutch on the shaft.
  • Cap Screw torque 55 lb-ft (75 N.m).

How to remove pto clutch from 2180

The best way that I have found to remove the front pulley or electric clutch is by using an impact wrench. It will work very well since there is no good way to place a back up wrench. The light hammering action frees/loosens bolt very easily. Try it gently in the counter clockwise direction for right hand threads, if this fails try the clockwise motion. Some have left hand threads.

Trying to remove clutch/pulley bolt on Maytag neptune tl washer. Turning bolt only makes pulley spin. Which is correct direction to turn it when looking up at bolt head? Some posts I read say CW (left...

It's std thread place your 3/8" socket wrench at three o'clock position on the bolt....the handle pointing to the right side panel. Hold the Clutch Pulley with your left hand and pull toward you. This is CW rotation of the socket wrench toward the front of the machine. You have to hold the Clutch Pulley from turning. leave the drive belt on. It's right Hand thread I tried to describe CW rotation of the bolt to loosen.

My last post here good luck.... Sorry if I caused any confusion with this post Clutch repair post

Need manual to see what size bolt is that holds on

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly,

It appears your model number is 74370 There are 3 bolts one for each blade and the part number is 26-0671 or 260671 for the blade mount.

Part look up:

http://www.jackssmallengines.com
then enter part number 260671 $6.31 ea.

You can not use just any bolt for this. They are hardened bolts with an NF thread. If you use a non hardened bolt the blade will fly off when the bolt shears.

This bolt is available at most all Lawn Mower Parts Supply sources. Toro uses the same bolt on most all of their mowers.

If you do not have a Lawnmower Parts Supply near by, you might be able to go to an Autoparts supply source with yet one of the other blade bolts in hand and have them match the markings on the bolt head with yours so that you have the exact replacement bolt.

Any other parts for your mower can be found here:
http://www.jackssmallengines.com/help.cfm

Use the Search model window. each line below is a drop down window
Toro
Riding
74370 <- there are numerous models up to 74704
enter your model number if different.

Thanks for using FixYa.
