Just a thought--try this. Go into the device manager and delete all the USB ports. Don't worry--they will be reinstalled on restart. Sounds like there is something having to do with them that is confusing the computer. Just right-click on My Computer (or Computer in Win 7), choose properties and then click on device manager to get there.
i found 2 computers in the trash. the keyboard and the mouse does not work with a hard drive in it.i cant even get into the bios. when i remove the harddrive. the mouse and keyboard works fine. what could be the problem.
Go to the device manager and uninstall both units. power down the pc, hook up the hardware and reboot. Make sure when yu uninstall the hardware that you do not check the box that says uninstall the drivers. You want to keep the drivers intact. When you reboot with the hardware attached, windows will read the hardware and reinstall the drivers. If you are connected to the web, windows may even ask to search online for the most up to date drivers, let it.
Sorry, but no. The USB device is not a thumb drive, it is a transceiver that "talks" to the mouse and picks up the movements and inputs them to the computer. Without the USB device, you have a paperweight. These are selling for less than $20, so just replace it.
disconnect the small wireless dongle from the back of your computer..reboot the computer..put it back in,,and then press the connect button on bothe mouse and the keyboard to check,,the battery of teh mouse and the keyboard shud be checked if possible
I had this problem last year, after e-mailing logitech they sent me a replacement free of charge :). Although the replacement is not the same thumb drive style reciever (which they didn't have in stock), it is a desktop reciever, it works perfectly.
If you have got a USB receiver for the wireless keyboard and mouse, then the solution might be with the receiver. Normally we know that to play a USB thumb drive, we simply plug in and play. But some model of Acer computer require us to press the button on the thumb drive to activate it. The model I had (an Aspire model) set the press button same as the blicking light bulb. So (a) turn on computer, (b) plug in thumb drive receiver (c) press button on the drive, (d) press "contact" button on the mouse and keyboard. That works for me.
