If you leave them in, you may find that the chrome finish will be dulled. Otherwise, no problem. Anything you put in the oven will be subjected to temperatures over 600 degrees. Metal only. It is kinda smoky but you can also put your outdoor grill parts in too!

My oven has a self cleaning mode, do I need to wipe the oven out or do anything else before I start the cycle?

Yes, just do a quick wiping of the interior of the oven. Don't leave any pans in oven. Take out oven racks. You can leave racks in but they will discolor permanently. Better to take racks out and use Carbona Oven rack and grill cleaner. Buy at Amazon or Ace Hardware. Put racks in the bag,add cleaner, wait overnight and rinse shiny clean! After oven self clean is done, wipe interior again. It may look somewhat like gray ash

Electrolux icon duel fuel range racks red light wont stop flashing even though I removed all racks, so oven will not start self clean cycle

Good Morning Andrea,

I see that you are having trouble with your Electrolux range, model# E30DF74GPS, and getting it to go into the self-clean cycle. I would suggest giving it a hard reset. First make sure the racks are in. Next, cut the power at the circuit breaker and leave it off for 2-3 minutes. After the time has elapsed cut the power back on. Start the self-clean cycle with the racks inside the oven. We're trying to get the oven to recognize the racks are inside. Once it states the racks are in, cancel out and take the racks out. Now, with the racks out start the self-clean cycle again. If you are still receiving the red light blinking, I suggest contacting the manufacturer or your local authorized technician. Hope this has been helpful.

-Best Regards-

Hi...I want to know if i can leave the 3 racks inside for cleaning at the same time as the oven is cleaning

It depends on the rack type. Do not leave the metal racks inside the oven during a self-clean cycle. They can be warped at the temperature of the cleaning cycle. If your oven has the porcelain-coated shelves, they can stay in the oven.

Clean large spills by hand with a non-abrasive cleanser before starting the self-clean cycle.

The manual for the JGBP90MEHBC and the JGBP90MEBBC is available from GE: .

The manual for the older JGBP90MEA is available here: .

I hope this helps.

Iam using the self clean on the oven . Is there anything I need to know? Itook the racks out before starting the self clean.

Yes never use the self clean right before a holiday like thanksgiving.
99.9% of the time everything will be fine. The other time when you're going to need the oven the HSI will go bad a the oven will not relight. This happened to me. I love self clean. Do this on a cool day it will heat up the kitchen and kinda smell a little. Make sure all racks and cookie sheets are out, lock the door and hit the button.

Rules for self clean

The racks are ok to remain during self cleaning. Remove any foil or other added materials. Remove any heavy build-ups because this will cause excessive smoking or require more than a single cleaning cycle.

When cleaning the oven, are you suppose to leave the racks inside?

If your racks were shiny, no. They have come out with porcelain coated racks that you can leave in, but that was just in the last couple of years.

Self cleaning

You can go to the Maytag web site and download the manual., or go to
and download the manual CAUTION
• It is normal for parts of the ovens to become hot during a self-clean cycle.
• To prevent damage to oven doors, do not attempt to open the doors when LOCK is displayed.
• Avoid touching doors, windows or oven vent area during
a clean cycle.
Do not use commercial oven cleaners on the oven finish or around any part of the ovens.  They will damage the finish or parts.
Do not leave baking/pizza stone in the oven during self-clean.

The self-clean cycle uses above-normal cooking temperatures
to automatically clean the oven interior.
The oven should be cleaned regularly by wiping up spillovers
to prevent excessive smoke and flare-ups.  Do not allow a
heavy build-up of soil to accumulate in the oven.
During the cleaning process, the kitchen should be well
ventilated to get rid of normal odors associated with cleaning.

Before Self-Cleaning
1. Turn off the oven light before cleaning as the light may burn out during the clean cycle.
2. Remove broiler pan, all pans, and oven racks from the oven.  The oven racks will discolor and may not slide easily after a self-clean cycle if they are not removed.
3. Clean oven frame, door frame (area outside of gasket, and around the opening in the door gasket) with a nonabrasive
cleaner such as Bon Ami* or detergent and water.  The self-cleaning process does not clean these areas.  They should be cleaned to prevent soil from baking on during the clean
cycle.  (The gasket is the seal around the oven door and window.)
4. To prevent damage, do not clean or rub the gasket around the oven door.  The gasket is designed to seal in heat during the clean cycle.
5. Wipe up excess grease or spillovers from the oven bottom. This prevents excessive smoking, flare-ups or flaming during the clean cycle.
6. Wipe up sugary and acidic spillovers such as sweet potatoes, tomato, or milk-based sauces. Porcelain enamel is acid-resistant, not acid-proof.  The porcelain finish may discolor if acidic or sugary spills are not wiped up before a self-clean cycle.

• Oven temperature must be below 400° F to program a clean cycle.
Only one oven can be cleaned at a time.
• Both oven doors lock when either oven is being cleaned.
To set Self-Clean:
1. Close the oven door.
2. Press the Clean pad.
    • CLEAN flashes.
    • SET and UPPER or LOWER flash in the display.
3. Press the Autoset pad.
    • “MEd” (Medium Soil, 3 hours) is displayed.
4. Press the Autoset pad to scroll through the self-cleaning settings.
     “HVy” (Heavy Soil, 4 hours)
     “MEd” (Medium soil, 3 hours)
“LITE” ( Light Soil, 2 hours)
Choosing the soil level of the oven automatically programs the self-cleaning time.
5. After four seconds, the oven will start cleaning.
    • If the door is not closed, beeps will sound and ‘door’ will display.         If the door is not closed within 30 seconds, the self-cleaning       operation will be canceled and the display will return to the time of day.
    • CLEAN will appear in the display.
    • LOCK will flash in the display.  Once the door locks, LOCK will
      remain steady.
    • The cleaning time will start counting down in the display.
