Be sure that there is a cartridge and paper installed. The 1300 cartridge is chiped so that it "knows" when it's empty. It may just be that it thinks the cartridge is empty and it wants a replacement. firstname.lastname@example.org with questions.
The flashing orange light is a basic attention light. Check the following:
1. There is a known good toner cartridge installed 2. There is paper in the tray 3. The long tab on the top of the inside of the cartridge access door is not broken 4. Connector J210 on main board is intact, tight and all 3 pins are present 5. That the drum drive engagement is working properly and the contact is present 6. The main motor connector is seated tightly
