Question about Ace Hardware InSinkErator Badger 5, 1/2 HP Garbage Disposal

1 Answer

My Badger 7 just buzzes but blades manually turn.

My Badger 7 only buzzes when turns on and won't turn blades. However, I can manually turn blades from within the sink and with the allen wrench method.

My sink won't drain on the side of the disposal but will on on the other side without the disposal.

What's going on?

Badger 5-81 motor buzzing, blades spinning, won't grind

Replace the whole thing. They are not that expensive and are easy to replace. The issue could be bad motor part or the shaft came loose from the grinding disk.

It just buzzes

grinder blade is probably stuck or in a bind. Take a socket wrench with extension and from the top (sink), turn the nut and blade inside the disposal by hand to free it up. Can also unplug it and reach inside to see what may be lodged in the disposal (rag, bone etc).

I have a Badger 5 (5-81A). The motor is humming when it's turned on, however, the blade does not turn. The blade does seem to move freely. Tried reset and hex key but still nothing.

you have something stuck in it more than likely,, use the key ( unplug it first) and turn it backwards,, keep looking inside with a flashlight for the lodged object once you see it,, remove it,, sometimes the key won't work if its something caught in the blades themselves, so use the handle end of a broom or plunger with a wooden handle to push on the blade itself to turn the unit over

It won't turn on. It buzzes but that's

Blades are bound up. Unplug the unit under the sink and using an allen wrench (one should have come with the unit, looks like a bent rod with 8 sides on it), insert it into the manual turn fixture on the bottom center of the ISE. Use this to turn the unit by hand to see if you can free it. If you can free it, see if you can find something inside the sink drain that might have caused the blades to bind up. Remove any debris and reset the circuit breaker, a small button, on the bottom of the unit as well. Also, the ISE needs to hang straight down below the sink. If it is pulled one way or another due to the way it is hooked to the plumbing, the blades may bind up and keep from running.

There is a buzzing sound, but the blades are not turning.

SOUNDS LIKE MOTOR MAY BE BURNED OUT.
IF SO, U CAN TURN BY HAND, BUT MOTOR
WINDINGS MAY BE FRIED SO IT WON.T RUN.
U MAY HAVE TO REPLACE. SEE IF U CAN
SMELL FOR BURNED WINDINGS.

I turned on the wall swithch. there is a buzzing noise but no movement. blades move freely when i hand turn them. i have unpluged the unit from the wall, still no movement

I think you are talking about a disposal. Since the blades move freely and you have actually unplugged it from the wall, feel all around the bottom of it for a reset button. Even if you have removed power, if this button clicks when you push it, it was tripped. Otherwise, my disposal just did the same thing. The type I have only last for 2 years. Mine buzzes and thats all. The motor has gone out. I will have to replace mine. You may as well.

In-sink aerator makes buzzing noice and wont work even after pressing the reset button.

Are you sure the blade is turning? If its not, there is a hole in the bottom you can fit an allen wrench into to turn the motor and break it free again.

Garbage disposal won't work!

Check to see if the cutting plate is free and will turn-be careful and be sure no one can turn the unit on while you are trying to turn the cutting plate-it is located in the drain hole that the food goes down. If it is locked up, hardware stores sell a special tool to break it loose. It should not be too expensive. If the blade is free, the motor is probably burned out.
