Transfer Mapsource route files to Zumo 550

I am preparing a short tour in France, using MapSource and Zumo 550. Transfer of the route files is a problem. I tried to transfer all 11 files, one at a time but none appeared in Zumo. I copied them onto the SD card as well - still nothing. The only PARTLY successful way seems to be to transfer one at a time, unplug the USB cable and switch the Zumo on again. If I'm lucky the route 'takes' - but not always. What am I doing wrongly? Is my Zumo a dud?

Try skipping the installation wizard and use your coupon code to unlock the maps/GPS online at Garmin's website.

Also if you downloaded the mapsource software online, the download may have been corrupted.  You may have to contact garmin tech support to try another download.

SOURCE: mapsource routes

Hmmm, I think the routes are supposed to be on the device memory, like trip logs. You should have like 130 MB of free storage on the device...

Need to change garmin zumo550 from NoAmerica to Europe mapping.

On my Garmin (another model but still) all changes to the installed maps are performed through the Mapsource software. You activate and deactivate what you want to have installed and then use the transfer function.

Make sure you have enough memory for the maps you need to have installed, maybe you need a little memory card like 2 GB or so, Mapsource should tell if there are any problems though.

Maybe your machine uses other software but I doubt it.

One more thing: I found it to be extremely much quicker and reliable to do the transfer directly onto the SD card through an USB adapter than through the cable, for some reason the cable slowed everything to a fault-prone crawl.

Good luck!

Transfering Routes to GPS device

Once you have transferred it using mapsource it won't automatically be in the custom routes. You still have to "import it from a file". Unplug your garmin from the computer then go to "Tools" then "My Data". That's where you should find the "import route from a file" button. It won't import if you already have 10 custom routes saved so you'll have to delete one.

Garmin zumo 550 map update problem

  1. Make a backup of your Zumo by copying all the file to your computer.
  2. Using your PC and MapSource select all the maps then send them to a SD memory card need 2Gig or bigger card.
  3. Try to rename this file to gmapprom.img and replace the same named file in your zumo. (I haven't tried this personally, so if it fails, just replace this with your backup and all will be as it was.)
  4. If this fails, you can use the SD memory card in your zumo and it will use this map instead, but it will take longer to boot your zumo.

Display

It does not auto dim, it just remembers the settings. As soon as it has a GPS fix and knows the correct time it will switch to either day or night mode, and use the last setting you chose for that mode. Just give it a minute or so to get that GPS fix.
Mapsource, you mean the one on the PC? That you can upgrade by downloading it from Garmin, If you mean the maps on the GPS, you gave to order the DVD from Garmin and pay for the unlock key.
