Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

The LCD screen has stopped working. The backlight was intermittently turning off after a while (5 minutes to just a few seconds) and now the backlight flickers at best when the LCD screen is opened. I am in Fiji, so I am far from any repair stations. It looks as if the backlight is part of the PCB; is that what needs to be replaced? Can replacement parts be ordered from somewhere? With instructions on replacing the board?. (I used to be a computer tech so I am reasonably handy.)

This is the small LCD screen in a Panasonic AG-DVC62 camcorder. (That model number was suppoed to be in the title of the request but somehow got lost.) I do not see a separate inverter board when I take the back off the screen.

  • FijiJohn Sep 10, 2009

The ribbon cables are in good shape. Looks to be the backlight itself or maybe more probably the inverter - but the inverter is not on a separate board. Maybe you have to replace entire assembly judging from list on Panasonic on-line parts store.

This camcorder has had very light use (23 hours on meter) but was stored in dry closet for one year. Little use of LCD panel, so odd to be cracked cable wire. Model number on bottom is AGDVC62EN.

  • FijiJohn Sep 14, 2009

This is NOT a cable issue. And yes, there is a faint picture in the right light - meaning it IS the backlight that is not working. There is power to the PC board on which both LCD panel and backlight are mounted. Does Panasonic require the entire LCD module assemble be replaced or can just the backlight be replaced? Any inverter circuity is on the PCB as there is not other place for it to be.

It sounds back light inverter board got problem so it gives flicker affect.
You can buy required back light inverter board from Shop Jimmy according to model and brand of your TV as that info are not mentioned in question.
Back light inverter board replacement would be easy for you as you are computer tech.
You can download service manual from HERE for small fee by typing model number and brand selection, if its available with them.
Thanks.

OK, please ignore my reply on Sharp LCD TV as your product is totally different and I had no idea of that.

There is connecting wires between LCD board and camcorder main board that seems cracked/ broken and causing back light on-off in LCD.
This is qualified camera tech job to replace that flexible connecting wire set because AG-DVC62 is professional series camcorder.
    Thanks.

Do you get faint image in LCD if seen in bright light? Point some flash light on LCD and try to observe image in LCD.
Usually flexible / ribbon cable becomes cracked due to LCD flip open and close in its position. Give a close look to that ribbon wire to see cracks.
I been replaced many wires for similar problem in different brands camcorders.
Panasonic Parts has not listed any parts for AG-DVC62 model.
    Thanks.

OK, then try unplugging and replugging flexible ribbon wires on both circuit boards.
Now I'm also thinking about back light circuit failure that would be on LCD board yet LCD should give faint image if pointed bright light on it.
Check supplied volts to LCD board with multimeter if it might not getting power supply from camera section.

Since its small board so it will be replaced completely and I do not think to get it repaired on component level.
Service manual will show you board part number to buy it from parts shop.
    Thanks.

Also check its user manual as camera might have back light On-Off switch some where in Menu.

That happens when the ballast transformer for the backlight overheat. Backlight or cold cathode light function is responsible for the images that you see in the screen.
Unless you are capable of replacing by yourself the parts with the same value and you have the right tools and skill to do it your own.
Otherwise, I suggest you bring your monitor to a credible technician.. or if the unit is still under warranty you can bring that to their service center..

Powers on TV works for 30 - 45 minutes then the screen turns black audio still runs.

take a strong light and place it next to the screen when the problem returns. Do you see a faint image on the screen? If so, then your backlight has failed. Since it happens after that long a time, it is probably a problem with the inverter board and or power supply for the backlight. Bad lamps usually go off after a few seconds. The problem will appear sooner as time goes on.

Samsung monitor picture clicks off after 2-5 seconds...

Yes, It sounds like the backlight inverter circuit is shutting down. No inverter power, no backlight. On some monitors the inverter circuit will shot circuit the power power supply which makes the power light flash on some it just kills the backlight. You can usually check with a flashlight. Hold the flashlight pointed at the screen and see if you can see any of the icons or background picture. If you can then it is the backlight circuit or backlight tubes, usually the circuit.

HP Pavilion, Screen working, but extremely dark!

Hi,
As per your description, I find that the issue is with the LCD Backlight which is also called as LCD Inverter which lights up the LCD to show us the Display on the LCD Display.
If this Backlight is gone bad, you will be barely able to see the Display on the LCD.
Coming to the Noise you had mentioned above can be from the Cooling fans of the Notebook which will be spinning at high speed when the Notebook starts and will reduce gradually after few minutes.
I recommend you to try cleaning the Cooling fan vents using any Vacuum Cleaner or Air Blower.
I recommend you to contact any nearest HP Authorized Service Center and get the LCD Backlight replaced.
Hope this helps....
