Over time I noticed that the battery was not charging properly and the battery indicator always flashes. I checked the power adapter and it gives out a healthy 19.5 volts. So I bought a new original 5200mAH battery and it has made no difference. It did charge once, but when I switch the laptop on the battery level gradually diminishes - even though plugged into the adapter. If I remove the battery the laptop goes dead and will not start on the power adapter. Now the laptop simply won't start at all. Both the power and battery lights flash once, then it goes dead. Help!
The best advice would be to update the BIOS and then go to the BIOS utility and restore the settings back to default. This might resolve the issue if it is software related. If not then visit the manufacturer's website and download the latest chipset drivers. Restart.
Try using a different power adapter of the same kind and check for the issue.
Turn off system and remove the power cable and battery and press the power button for about 30 seconds to power drain the system.
Turn on and check.
If not the main board itself is the issue for which I would request you to contact the manufacturer.

I am in college, this would be my second computer (my current laptop is too cumbersome to carry), so it just needs to do Internet, MS Word, and MS Powerpoint, maybe movies when I travel and sometimes iTunes. (I will be buying MS Office and an external cd/dvd drive.)
Would you buy an HP Mini 311 with WIN 7 or Toshiba Satellite T115?
