Have to take all 3 plastic covers (housings) off to get to the spring and tie the new pull rope or change the spring. Just did mine, spring just unlatched and string wouldn't retract. Did not have to by any new parts....works great! Took me 1 hour to get it done.

No it is not easy due to the way it is built. It is just as easy to put in a new piston than to repair the starter. It is virtually a complete tear down.

In the future when you are purchasing a string trimmer or blower or hedge trimmer, be sure that the starter can be removed by removing 4 screws. This makes starter repair a 5 minute $10 job instead of an hour $40 or more job. The problem is that you will not find this in most home centers or box stores. You will have to go to a full service dealer.

I went to crank it and when I pulled the string it stayed out and won't go back in. How do I get the string to go back into the blower

Open the door that covers the fan. You probably have to remove one screw and it should be hinged oposite the screw. Turn the fan clockwise slightly and usually the cord will retract back in.

Won't retract the pull string

The pull cord assembly either has something jammed in there or it's busted. Take the 3 or 4 bolts out that hold in on to the top, and inspect it for damage. If there's nothing in there or it's not damaged it might have just slipped off the spring. Rewind your cord and reinstall it.
