Question about Sony VAIO Notebook

Available Memory Steadily Decreases

Like I said,my memory just keeps decreasing until it hits around 1% of available physical memory. That's about the point where I shut my PC off ,because I'm afraid it might explode or something .What could be causing this?I did a system restore to about a day before this started happening, but the problem still persists. Is this some kind of virus or is this in some way hardware related?Thank you for your time.

First ,I'd like to thank you for your assistance.
Second ,I'd like to add that my memory just keeps decreasing, even if I don't open any new windows,or programs whatsoever.Sometimes it happens in a few others, sometimes 20 minutes after boot.

EDIT : I have downloaded several recommended anti-virus/spyware/malware programs, and nothing has worked thus far ...My Ram usage has just randomly spiked to 80% again *out of 4 gigs* and it keeps on randomly increasing.

After running Hijackthis ,and disabling some Useless internet explorer stuff ,my Memory usage plumitted to 24% ...I'm hoping this was in no way a coincidence ,because I don't even use IE.

It may well be some form of virus or spyware.

It may also be that you have too many applications running at once eg. lots of toolbars and instant message typ programs.

It can also happen on graphic intensive applications.

You should rule out nast stuff first.

MBAM !

for a free one its pretty darned good !

From a CLEAN computer download and put on a flash drive.

Copy to your DESKTOP on the suspec computer.

Run it but dont change any options just use what it offers.

When its done let it clean anything it finds.

Its where I always start with an infected machine.

As for antivirus AVOID Norton or Mcafee but try the AVG FREE version MBAM should clean up without buying

Only continued use would require purchase As for too many applications that would be up to you to decide what you REALLY need and dont. Most toolbars are a waste of both time and space and can hog computers down. Maybe a good clean up is in order ?

Without knowing what you are actaully runnint it is difficult.

It may just be a"leaking application"

These are badly coded programs that dont release memory when they should and just keep taking more to do the same job.

May I suggest you download "hijackthis"

It is a program that can make a report on what you have running in such a way that you can post that information to certain sites and experts there will look at it.

They will then give you reccomendations as to how you can remove programs or fix some issues that may be upsetting your computer.

Dont post the log here but follow the nstructions and help the program offers to send it to one of the sites it will offer you.

If you understand startup lists you may even be able to spot som things yourself that you dont want to run and disable them from hijack this.

Glad you are seeing better memory usage.

Internet explorer is linked into windows for more than just browsing so that maybe why you saw things that you might not use.

24% is pretty darned good you should notice a visable difference and I am glad Fixya could be of help

I would recommend running a spyware scan to remove any malicious software on the system. Below is the link to a free spyware scanner that works very well.

Just bought a new 120G HD for my Dell Latitude D600. The following error message comes up every time I turn it on: MEMORY ADDRESS LINE FAILURE AT 28000000 READ 00000000 EXPECTING FFFFFFFF DECREASING...

While the "memory loss" won't cause a major problem, you will be annoyed by the repeated message. A couple of things may be causing this. One, Windows changed the virtual memory size. This is an area on your hard drive that the computer uses to store stuff when the on board ram isn't large enough to handel it. the other thing that may be happening is you have a memory module going bad. You must remember that the hard drive size has nothing to do with the memory size. That is, your ram memory is what handles most of the processing of information. Your hard drive is just a storage place. Like a file cabinet in your office.

If this information was helpful, please rate it high. Thanks

Dell 531 Multiple problems: - Running slower and slower by the day - Keeps trying to do automatic file backups, but then shows an error stating that my backup disk space is low

Hi,
I think you need to increase the Physical Memory of your computer... If the physical memory is less, system goes slow...

You can increase your available physical memory by either adding more memory chips or by deleting existing software or files. Pls follow this step: Go to RUN, type WINMSD.EXE You can able to see the available physical memory. If the memory is very less then you need to increase the space as I mentioned above. Pls let me know if this doesn't work.

Ram problem

IT IS A SHARED MEMORY
You won't like the resolution if you remove the 8mb buffer in bios set-up, trust me.(it will make your display look like 16color windows 3.1 or worse) You could try it and it will get you back that 8 meg the other is shadow ram, don't mess with that either.
Your options in advanced video are 8mb and 1mb. My advice, leave it.
