Hi
The E1error code indicates a water inlet error.
To access test mode: press and hold Normal+Eco, and press Power. Release buttons. Then press Start(display n:01).Press Start again (display shows water level frequency-not important). Press Start again-(display n:03-motor will be running). Press Start again (display n:04-drain pump will run). Press Start again (display n:05-inlet valve will come on and machine should fill with water). You have now tested major components are working-if you keep pressing start you will scroll thru and test other functions, like heater, dispensor etc, but not needed for your fault.
If Machine didn't fill with water in test mode, you probably have a faulty inlet valve (test resistence should be approx 3.7-4 k ohm).
If inlet valve has tested OK ie machine filled with water in test mode then:
Disconnect from power.
Remove side panels (need to remove top, and bottom front panel to then be able to remove sides)
- Check no water in base of machine-water in base will indicate machine has leaked and activated the safety device which shuts off inlet valve.
- If OK, you probably have a faulty flow meter(measures water intake). Located left hand side of machine, large plastic compartment, which has a sensor at the bottom with 3 wires (red, white, black) that go up to control board. Replace entire flow meter assy-relatively inexpensive part.
- If you still have problem, then control board is faulty, it is much more likely to be flow meter .
.

I had this same problem. Would start to run a cycle, then come up E1 with all the water in the bottom. The problem for me was that a small chip from a cup had lodged itself in the drain pump. this was preventing the dirty water to be pumped away to the drain unless it was gravity fed. Because the dishwasher doesnt fill with any more water until it has got rid of the old to prevent flooding, it was coming up with code E1. It wasnt too hard to sort, just removed a few panels and took the pump out to give it a clean. Hope this helps some of you.

Hi as far as I can work out on my dishwasher error E1 is the pump not running to circulate the water, there is a slotted screw on the end which you can turn with a screwdriver to see if has seized.

I have an error E1 on a Kenwood kdw45x16. I don't have a manual. How do I fix it

E1 is a filling error. If you remove the unit from under the counter, on the right side is a thin hose that connects to a switch, disconnect one end of the hose and blow it out to be sure that nothing is stuck in it. The connect it back and unhook the end away from the switch and blow air in it again and listen for the switch to click. The service manual is here: https://www.partmaster.co.uk/kenwood/dishwasher/dishwasher/kdw45x16/catalogue.pl?shop=kenwood&path=590737%2C652195&model_ref=11641472&illustration_ref=4442804

E1 ALARM ON KENWOOD DISHWASHER

An E1 is a control board error. Sometimes it can be soldered at the heat element relay which get hot often and can melt the solder ion the board. It is fairly easy to replace a control board.

E1 indicated long filling time. Perhaps the inlet filter has clogged. Check the inlet pipe and tap(faucet in usa).
