Question about Car Audio & Video
It hard to say what is wrong, it can be numerous issue from your ground, bad connection between your amp and radio, or radio is faulty, amp is faulty, bad speakers...etc. most newer radio come with rca jack and plug in for that main reason although some older radio doesn't equip with rca jack but one have to rig all the wiring to make it work and thing get mix up and now you have bad sound. best thing to do is eliminate one things at a time. check and make sure you have good ground to both radio and amp if you have them. most important is to make sure all your speakers wiring connected to the right post, like positive to positive and neg to neg, if not chances are you will short your amp out or the radio. test all your speakers first one at a time making sure they put out good sound. next test your amp checking one channel at a time with another radio, next test the radio it self without the amp, this way you can eliminate what good or bad, if all check out fine, that its you bad ground wire.

Having done 100's of stereo installs have seen this many times, the usual problem is that the Antenna ground is bad, clean the antenna ground to the sheet metal of the car, it that doesn't cure the issue the noise filter inside the radio is defective and the radio will need to be pulled out and repaired by an authorized repair station for your car. In rare cases this problem is caused by a defective electrical noise suppression capacitor in the alternator.

That it is probably the Amp built into the stereo (final section of circuit), or the external car amp.
What happen is that one of the Amp power ICs is faulty, and after overheating it will cause general fault.
If stereo becomes completely irresponsive when this happen, then it can be the Stereo itself.
You can find out if it is the stereo or the Amp bypassing the AMP, bridgeing wires to speakers to connect straight to stereo, and removing fuse from Amp, so that it will not start.
