Kenmore Coldspot compressor kicking on and off

we had a bad electrical storm last night, kicking electric on and off. Refrigerator light comes on, fan runs, but compressor will not stay on, it kicks on for about 5 seconds then kicks off. any ideas? thanks

It sounds like you may have toasted one of the starting componets. Either the start relay or the start capacitor has probably failed, causing the compressor to try to start, and then kick off on overload. Hope this helps
